Thinking since all I've have now is some xenia, mushrooms, polyps and a Open Brain do I really need to run the CL?

Tank is 145g and the plan is to get into SPS/LPS but since I'm not there yet and I can easily do 1000gph from the sump return why run the Dart on the CL. I can also open up the sump return to push up to about 2000gph though at a lot more noise.

I would expect that those corals appreciate high flow just as much as SPS. I would leave your CL running...or shut it down only for limited time periods. The other thing to consider is that you don't want to leave water in the CL pipes for long periods...

Hmm...things may also start to live inside the CL piping.

I would just leave it on.

Leave it on and get the SPS started sooner than later :)
