View Full Version : enourmous pool filters for possable reef use?

so i was at big als and they where selling this mamoth sand bed filter... and i bought it thinking i might resell it and now im wondering if there is a potential use for a saltwater app?? http://www.pelicanpool.com/pools/23proseriesr.htm
i have only ever seen these thins run on ponds or pools.

is anyone using one of these or seen one used? is it worth it to use?

I've seen them used on big fresh water systems (Mostly in LFS's), but never seen one used in a saltwater reef application. I'd suspect it would be graet for a FOWLR system.

It is basically just a big fluidized bed filter. Nitrate production is high with those, so I'd say it would not be the best choice for any application other than a swimming pool. For water ponds, the similar bead filters are preferred now as they are better suited.
