I was in BA yesterday (sad situation) and bought a small anemone, I was told it was a red bottom anemone, however, I can't find any info on red bottom anemones. I think it is a Beaded anemone, but I am not sure. Can anyone help me to identify it please. It is my first anemone, so any additional info would be good also. Ie do they prefer to attach to rocks or hide in the sand. What do they eat? Basically how can I make it as happy as possibble to be in captivity!

Ah its good to know that the people selling you difficult/high maintenence animals don't bother to learn the right names, or bother to tell you how to look after it properly... *sigh*

i'd also say it looks like a beaded. good luck with it... nice looking anemone!

How big is it? It could be a juvenile condylactis.

It is about 1.5"-2" across and about 1" high. It won't attach to a rock and I can't seem to bury it in the sand. It just keeps rolling around the tank in the current. I don't know what would make it happiest.

I bought one of those 2 months ago at Wai's and the same problem. What he told me it is, there is no info on. Mine is exactly like yours but yellow. Same problem, its rolls around the tank and closes up half the time. I have been feeding it mysis and it seems to open well after feedings, but I can't seem to place it anywhere. Very annoying.

Here is what mine looks like.

If the anemones are rolling around and won't attach anywhere, it is possible there is too much flow in your tanks.

Hey, I believe this "could" be "Heteractis magnifica" as refered on http://www.reefimages.com/cgi-reefimages/page.cgi?list=Anemones&slide=39.jpg . :)

It's not. :) Most definitely Heteractis aurora as was suggested.

PS. Oldish thread :)

PPS. Welcome to Canreef!
