How do you prevent snails from climbing into the nozzle of a water return pipe (assuming the nozzle is under water and close to the tank's wall)? I assume that a flare nozzle rather than a round nozzle is the solution due to its smaller gap?

I use plastic mesh gutter guard.

If you are concerned about the snail going right up into the nozzle, you must not have very much flow going through there. If you are concerned, use the flared nozzle that is too small for them to get into.

I have never had a problem using the round nozzles or just 1/2" pvc elbows, but I never though about a snail getting right up in there because the flow coming out *should?* be enough to steer them away?
