Just wondering if anyone else is using this unit.

I just switched over to the 48" version on my 90 gallon and seem to be heating the tank up a fair bit.

I have it hanging 8" over the tank. Any opinions on how high over the tank it should be.

Do you think there's any point in maybe moving it up to around 12" above the tank or will that just make it less effective?

Thanks in advance for the input. :)

Hey Gary, doesn't it have cooling fans? I have mine (I know only 175's but..) sitting right on the top of the tank. No heat issues but it has 2 fans, one blows in and the other exhausts.

Yes it has fans, but the radiant heat from the light itself is so intense that it makes even the centre brace hot to the touch.

I don't have that particular light but on my 190g I was having heat issues (acrylic tank). My fixture also has fans but it is 3X400W and 6 X T5. I had to set up another large fan to run between the light and the tank to push to heat away.

i would move it up to 12" or add another fan blowing in between the light and the water.

Is there a glass canopy, because any time I've added fans to cool the water, controlling evaporation was a PITA. You'll probably find your humidity much higher & you're need to top-off much greater.

Thanks for the replies.

I think my heater was about 2 degrees too high. I've adjusted this and will see what happens tomorrow.

Anthony,

I'm not using a glass top. (I realy don't like them for some reason.)
