Awesome looking clams! I dont have a good picture of my Crocea, so I'll get a good one of it, as well as my squamosa.

For now, here is a pic of my crocea with a rather un-intelligent clown goby I used to have:

Hey Deb

Harv's been begging for a gold teardrop for ages, and the clam wasn't real happy in the sandbed, nowhere low flow enough to extend. And would never attach anywhere in the rockwork. Saw him at harvs the other day and the little guy looks beautiful.

I will however never be parting with the gold striped purple maxi :D

the tank looks awesome. i could see why you question taking it apart. this is probably a stupid question for you guys but i'm a rookie and research the hell out of everything i can. clams are a definite attraction for me but i currently have a flame angel, sixline wrasse, 2 chromis and a goby, soon to get a gold band marroon clown, will any of these be a problem for a clam. from what i've researched clams should be in a tank without fish just corals or just very docile fish. any help would be awesome

IMO & IME Flames will take a nip at the mantle (the colourful part of the clam) .. mine did anyhow. I think (key word: think) if you were to keep his belly real full all the time.. the chances would be minimal. I couldn't keep feeding mine all the time due to my tank size.. but , if your really want one.. go take a shot at it. If you notice him taking an attraction to it, cover the clam with something (like a strawberry basket thingy, or something along those lines) and find another home for it. This way, you can see whether or not it will nip. It might not nip right away, it may in time.. just be prepared to cover it up and make alternative arrangements for it.

Of course, all of this is my opinion!

Beauty Clams Shao and Scott! Thanks for sharing the pics!

Now I only need a maxima to complete the collection of the common 4.... haha.

Where does everyone score these uncommon beauties all the time? I've never seen an uncommonly patterned clam at the LFS's here?

I'm on the hunt for a gigas so if anyone spots one or has one for sale please let me know.

smokinreefer

in the time i've been in the hobby, i've only seen 2 <2" gigas for sale...
and i bought one of them. [last year]

but then again, i dont get around to the shops like i used to. i know there are a few hobbyists out there with them as well.

though still uncommon, i'm not sure if they are as hard to come by as they once were.

as for uniquely patterned clams... you just got to be at the right place at the right time. as with all the corals, the nice ones get snatched up before most get a chance to see them.

but i gotta say, the selection of different color/patterned smaller maximas isnt what it used to be a few years ago. [then again, i could be wrong as i said, i dont get out to the shops much anymore.]

happy hunting!

Pet Boutique had some in last year before they went under I believe. There were some available in the Lower Mainland & if you wait a couple of years, I'm sure some of the surviving ones will be for sale as they outgrow their present tanks. Gigas get HUGE!!!

If I spot any, I'll let you know Ruth (unless of course I pick it up for myself hehe).

Tho I wouldn't expect anything less from you
Also great to see ya posting again, I would luv to come check out the new tank now as it looks like it's doing so well!

As for the clams, well I have heard from good sources that most farms right now are mostly shipping out Maxima's as other species are in grow out stages, So I'm sure that the hobby will have more colorful clams in the near future.

Just as Scott mentioned, angels can definetly vary. My coral beauty angel never expressed any interest in even tasting any corals or clams. Its typically a matter of luck.

hey rich, thanks for the kind words.
i'm just around the corner from my folks place, so hit me up if youre in the neighborhood.

thats good to hear about the maximas possibly becoming more available... they can have some amazing color/patterns.

and regarding angels, yeah they are hit or miss comcerning clam compatibility. i've kept [rip] a multibar angel for a few years with no problems to any of my tank inhabitants.

i may attempt keeping another golden dwarf. [first one didnt last a week]
