I am thinking of getting a galaxy coral frag, but something in the back of my head is telling me they dont last long in reefs, but I could be thinking of the wrong thing. Is this the case, or do they do well?

They do very well in reefs however they are probably one of the most aggressive corals with stinger tentacles that can go out 6-8". They grow large as well so need lots of room. Their sting packs a punch too so they almost always win.

I've had one for years under medium light. According to Borneman, if you get a good speciman they are fairly tolerant and prefer bright light. (I keep mine up pretty high in the tank). Low to moderate flow will reduce sweepers that I've seen up to 6" long. I guess that's why it could be a poor choice for small or crowded tanks.

Hope this helps.

Super info, thanks both of you. My tank is 180g, so should be lots of room for a frag, and plan a bigger spot for when it grows.
