OK I have sent an e-mail to Pacific Garden Supply to see what kind of a deal we might be able to get if we put together a group buy on Luminarc reflectors and will post prices and details as soon as I hear back from them. I am going to be ordering 2 of the Luminarc 111 reflectors with the ballast and connections. Here is a link to their home page.
http://www.pacificgardensupply.com/
I would like to see if there is any interest in this before I put in too much time so if you could either post here or send me a pm to let me know and also what you are interested in that would be much appreciated.

Depending on the deal, I might be interested in 2 or 3 reflectors.

Ya if it's a decent deal I would be in for 3
I'm going to get 3 Luminarc 3s so if this is a go that is what I'll order

Here is the reply that I got from them
First off, we can definitely ship to Canada, for group orders, we prefer to ship everything to one or two locations, instead of everybody individually, it's easier to make sure everything is right that way.
For the pricing, we have a break at 10+ units (can be L3 or LA3) which is $115 per reflector (down from $130) And another break at 20+, which is $105 per reflector.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

If there are enough people interested I guess we could have them drop shipped to someone in Vancouver and either Calgary or Edmonton. LMK if you are interested at these prices. Of course the prices are in US$

Still too rich for my blood for just a reflector, although I am sure they are great. Thanks for checking the group pricing and posting though.

Hey Ruth,

I might be interested in up to 4 units.
And i will volunteer to be a drop point.

TheReefGeek

I wonder why the 4 is cheaper than the 3. The 4 is smaller, is that the only difference, and if so why would it be a higher number.....

The Lumanarc 3 reflectors are one of the best, if not the best reflector that has been tested for aquarium applications (see Sanjay Joshi's articles for more info). I wish you the best of luck with this group buy. If I had the room for them, I'd be all over them like white on rice

Yup I agree with Mr Alberta, I have read nothing but good things about luminarcs. There's a huge discussion thread on RC regarding luminarcs, should check it out before purchasing. I think it's called "Luminarcs...Excellent!" or something like that.

Any breaks for higher Qtys? I know the last group order was for 40 units..

Ruth

It doesn't look like we will get that many - if it starts to look like we have over 20 I will definately make the inquiry.

Hi Ruth, did their price include shipping? I might be in for 3 or 4.

They did not say but I am pretty sure that shipping is NOT included as they said they would prefer to ship to one or two locations and have people pick them up.

Hi Ruth I am in for 3 of the mini L3's.

I'm in for 3 Reflectors with Moguls/Sockets (No Cords). Those prices you quoted.. were they for just the reflector? I'm pretty sure he charges separately for the Moguls/Sockets. Just wanted to be sure...

For anyone that's wondering about how well these things work. Well they are AMAZING. I have 3 of them already over my 180g setup.

Ruth,
If there are enought Vancouver area people I could be a ship to site. As I could have them come to my Office. There is shippers/Recievers there all day.

Ruth

Just finished working 2 16hr days so don't want to figure it out tonight. I'll do it on the weekend and e-mail these guys and see how they want to set it up and if we have enough for a larger discount.

Ruth
02-11-2006, 09:42 PM
OK so far I count 22 reflectors:
Ruth - 2
JasonMcK - 3
Reefhawk1 - 2
Muck - 4
Christyf5 - 2
dbDavid - 3
Psyire - 3
Props - 3

I have not broken it down for the mini's or the regular as I am pretty sure it doesn't matter what is ordered. For drop points we have JasonMcK for BC and Muck for Alberta.
Before I contact them to confirm prices for this is everyone sure and does anyone else want to jump in on this?
I'll contact them on Monday to see about shipping and payment details. My preference is that everyone just order their own and pay for their own and then they ship them bulk.

Once I find out prices, I might be down for a couple, but need a price first.

Sweet Ruth thanks for organizing this.

Maybe we could have a code word when ordering like "Canreef" that would enter the order as the group buy

I have to ask,

What makes these reflectors so special? (Sorry if I missed that in the thread)

Hope to hear back from them today and will post as soon as I hear.

I have to ask,

What makes these reflectors so special? (Sorry if I missed that in the thread) All the cool people already use them ... get with it man! :p

No seriously, they're just a very clever design (multi faceted) that reflect more light into the tank than other reflectors. There is an analysis here:
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2003/feature.htm

The only thing is they are very large. There is a "miniature" design though that is a little less obtrusive.

Do a search (here or RC or where-ever) on "lumenarc" (note that I think it's spelled with an 'e' not an 'i' - in case you don't find too many results try alternating the spelling. Some people may even be using two words, i.e., "lumen arc" so try that as well) and you should see some threads with discussions and/or pictures.

I spoke with Luke at PGS about the group buy on Thursday - he was supposed to send me an e-mail but perhaps he forgot. I was hoping to just cut and paste his response but anyway - the jist of it is in order to get the group buy price it has to be paid for in one shot. I don't mind doing this it's just that I am getting ready to leave on Feb. 28th for 3 weeks holidays. I can't see this getting pulled together quick enough to do it before I leave as it would entail everyone getting their order to me - me getting price from Luke for each individual - me getting that total back to you - you getting the money to me - and me placing the order.
I think we have to look at a couple of options
- Wait until I return from holidays to pull together - everyone could post what they want and when I return I will get prices and collect $ and place order
- Someone else can pull order together - get prices - collect $ - place order

I have to go to Fort Nelson for a day and Calgary for a day and a half next week so will not have access to a computor (that I can check this site on) so LMK what you want to do.

If nobody comes forward to take over I am going to say that we will have to wait until I come back

Psyire

Since Ruth is busy busy these days I can take over this group buy.
I have contacted Pacific Garden Supply and they confirmed that the reflectors come with the socket, bracket, and cord.

Can everyone who would like any of these reflectors please email me at ryan@reefwerkz.ca.
I would like to know who is still interested in this order and see where we are at as far as numbers.

Thanks,

Ryan

ok everyone I have finalized prices for the reflectors.
Total will be $138 cdn (includes all import taxes.) Out of towners will be charged $5 flat for each reflector for shipping from Edmonton. (unless they can sort out their own pickup)

The reflectors come with the bracket, socket and cord.

Let me know what kind of cords you want on the sockets. You can either choose to match sunlight supply, PFO, 15' raw cord, or 15' to match the ballasts that PGS manufactures. If you would prefer without a cord please specify that as well.

Please email me with which size you want (LA3 or LA3 mini) and the cord type you would prefer. As soon as I get all the info I will place the order.
Thanks for being patient with me everyone!!

I loooove mine. I got the MiniA3's I couldn't believe the change in intensity of the bulbs after installing the lumenarcs. The tank is so much brighter. To me they were worth every penny
