picked up a 175 watt Vertical (Bell) style pendant today with a 10,000K Ushio Bulb from a Local Reefer (Thanks Cichlidguy!!!) just wondering if I am going to experience any weird shadowing from the Black plastic center brace?

Is it possible to remove the centerbrace on a bowfront? Perhaps replace it with something glass or acrylic? The current brace is intigrated with the trim around the top (1piece).

I Guess I should just wait until I get home from work, and see how it looks.

Hurray, hopefully my stuff will start growing now instead of just staying what seems the same!!!!!

Bell pendants are no good really. I was going to go with one of those and I am glad I didn't. You wont get much coverage with a bell pendant. You want the bulb horizontal with a reflector. Edit.. err , that sounds a little rude lol... to rephrase... a bell pendant will obviously work, but ideally you want the bulb horizontally with a relflector for best output and light coverage... my bad.

To answer your question though.. using a bell pendant especially.. the center brace will give a shadow most likely. I am not sure if you can remove it though or change it.

I am building a new stand and canopy, but is is a slow moving project so far..............

OK I have bought some lumber to build a new stand and canopy:redface:

I was planning to stop using the bell part when I mount things in the canopy so hopefully things will be better then.

I was planning to use the type of reflector that the bulb runs paralell to the front of the tank, and incorperating the guts from my coralife PC for actintic (SP?) supplimentation.

Hope this doesn't turn out to be a bad purchase!!

Any tips on where to purchase the above mentioned reflector in Calgary? I am looking for a 24" one

Everytihng works great, however I am deffinately not getting the light spread I was with PC lighting. If anyone has a suggestion as to where I could obtain a well priced horizontal pendant, or a reflector and bracket to mount the socket sideways I would be very greatful.

would it be possible to remove the pc lights, and plastic shield from my coralife fixture, and mount the MH lamp inside?

Would it get too hot for the fixture?

You could probably get all you metal halide supplies at the local hydroponics store like U-Grow.
