I Need some help removing a very nervous yet agresive Yellow tang from my well established and packed reef.
I am thinking of going fishing for him but I know the other fish will want to take the bait too. A net seems out of the question as if I lift the lid on the tank he darts into the rocks.

Any ideas would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks
Rob

I caught a goby a couple of weeks ago with size 24 hook baited with a mysis. Basicly put the hook where he was hiding and bam he was on the hook in no time.

Yes I have done the same with a Tomato clown. Worked like a charm.
The problem I faced this morning with the fishing technique(sp) is the other fish want the bait more than the tang does

Make some kind of fish trap. I use a critter keeper. Drill a small hole in the door, and run some fishing line through it. Feed them in there for a few days or put some nori in it. Works for me.

I tried making a fish vacuum once with powerheads, cheese cloth, plastic cups etc... I'll tellyou man, it definitely didn't work!

what did work for me was when I put a laundry bag by the fishes favourite hang out (maybe put the bag below the nori clip then set the nori up). then pull the bag up around it while it eats or sits.

I would try something like a old Glass or plastic jar...Just take say a old peanut butter plastic container,Make a hole big enough for a fish line or rope to fit through, then tie a naught inthe rope say 2feet of lenth and kind a let it rest in the tank with food in it!the fish will enter for sure..then pull him up QUICK!Ahh I dunno hope it help's!

You could have someone else distract the other fish with food on one side of the tank and target the tang with the hook.

Put a large net in the tank around the area you usually feed the tang. Leave it there for a few days or so, until the fish gets used to it. Then scoop him up when he's not expecting it.

i caught a mean assed ebeli angel once by filling a large net with mysis and just hanging the bottom of the net in the water. after 15 mins of the fish going nutso i just turned the net and he swam right in for the food..

slowly spot feed ALL your other fishes until they can't eat anymore. Then use the fishing hook on your tang.

with the way some people in here are so anal about hurting fish sometimes, didn't think that would be acceptable.

Caught a sailfin with a hook. Two days the hole was gone, never did interupt his eating habits
