I have just replaced a Coralife 10,000K bulb with the 14,500K Gieseman bulb. Initial observations are very positve. The bulb gives off a very nice icy blue color without the godawful blue I experienced with an Arc 14,000K Mogul bulb. It is also very intense compared to the aforementioned bulb. In addition the green colors in the tank fluoresce nicely.

I'm thinking about getting Gieseman bulbs too. Keep us posted on how it turns out once they are broken in. The colour you see now may change.

How long did you run your ARC 14000K bulb for? I've had no problems with them and the colour is what I expect from a bulb rated at this temperature. I find that they need a long burn-in time. One or two weeks and the blue subsides quite a bit giving a much more balanced look. When I first fired them up, yes, the intense blue did tire out my eyes rather quickly. It was like staring into actinics.

It is now quite some time later. I have found the colour has not changed appreciably. However today i have decided to discontinue the Actinic supplementation that I was using only a couple of hours a day. At this time it is just not needed. Needless to say I am still very happy with the bulb.

You'll like it. A friend of mine did the 13000k gm bulbs, and they blew me away!
