To anyone who recently purchased SPS from a person who lived outside of Edmonton, and was shutting down a large system.
I received corals from this person and they arrived with redbugs! Most of my corals have RTNed, but I wanted to let anyone else who'd purchased from this person know. Check your tanks. This particular strain appeared to be more of a cinnimon-orange color, and only attacked sps in my tank with few polyps.

Hey Catherine are you sure they came from that person? I loaded my tank with corals from her and I have been watching my tank, I see no bugs ( it does have me a little worried though ) Could they have come from else where? Sorry to here about your tank

I haven't gotten anything from anyone else. The only coral infected was that particular coral that came from her.

Hi Catherine,
Looking closely at my pieces, I can confirm what you are seeing. Though the outbreak isn't horrendous, they are there.
Its time to talk to your vet again I guess :frown:

I am yet to find any bugs people....I dont even know what I am looking for.Small red things that look like paprika on the coral..hmmmm.... I may get you guys to look at my tank when you come for the meet.Cause I honestly never seen them before and I am sure if I noticed something I wouldve freeked out already. Are they that hard to spot?
george
They are hard to spot but are noticeable if you look really really closely.
My tank is Red Bug free as I got some acros from that source just before i treated my tank anyways..

IMO red bugs are inevitable in this hobby if you have any acros. They will always come back in 3/4/6/8 months. Its probably best to just treat on a regular schedule. I am going to treat every 2 months from herein and my tanks are now void of hermits and shrimps.... not because I don't like the inverts but my investment in acros have been a lot higher than the inverts. Every 2 months might be a little extreme but after seeing the difference in the before and after effects on many of my acros, I believe its probably the best route to take.

Ok I will have to have someone look at my tank because I just looked again and I see no red bugs. Either I got lucky and didn't get any or I am blind
so what is the best treatment?

The only treatment they've come up with so far is interceptor, a dog heartworm medicine that is available by prescription through a veterinarian

I gotta go against this thought. I believe that if you treat every new incoming piece, you can avoid them. I go one step further and inspect every new frag under a microscope, but I do not have them back and I'm sure I never will.

Unless you have Acros in your tank, they should die off in short order from lack of food/shelter.
