Hello,

I was planning to buy a server to serve this site, connected via an ADSL connection. Apparently, with the number of hits we have, the transfer bandwidth will easily exceed TELUS's 1GB/month limit. Does anyone know of any Vancouver ADSL plans that offer unlimited bandwidth?

Hi,

Transfer bandwidth is 7 to 8 GB (...big B mean bytes) per month (download) for Telus ADSL. So...how much bandwidth do you need ?

Steve, Shaw doesn't allow servers on their service unless you specifically sign up for the business package. It's about $160/mo and does have transfer limits. Often the best plan is to have a company co-host with you. You use your server on their premises (with their bandwidth)

Hello,

Yes from what I've heard Shaw doesn't allow that.

And Telus have a 1GB/month of upward traffic. When you guys request a page, my server will be uploading the traffic. There's like 40k hits per month already at 60kB/page. That's like 2.4GB of bandwith. And this board is still growing.

Titus, check out the Shaw biz package. It allows 4GB up per month. http://www.shawcable.com/packages/bus.htm

Hi,

If you want to host that much bandwidth, I think you want to do it like it is now. I thought you were hosting much less.

If you look at how much basic ADSL costs ($40/month) and compare that to hosting (say $10/month). There are some places that do free hosting if you register your DNS name with them (i.e. http://www.100best-free-web-space.com ) DNS registration is $35 US.

Hello,

Thanks. However, at the rate this board is growing, I'm not sure if I'd like to go with any metered bandwidth packages. I also talked to sohoskywave and found that they also have metered bandwidth.

I use to co-locate my webserver at Lynx Internet. It had unlimited bandwidth. You can check them out and negotiate a rate. The price will be probably near $200/month. Not cheap, but much cheaper than other places like Net Nation.

Hi,

I've used the Telus ADSL server package to host my site in the past. The service was ok and the price wasn't bad. I cancelled it to cut costs and now host my server off a basic consumer ADSL package with dynamic IP. One thing I didn't like about telus was there DNS service so I switched my DNS to Dotster and am much happier. Here's a link to the telus price page:
