View Full Version : Closed Loop Too Loud
I currently have two 1” sea swirls running off a Mag 36 and it is way too loud. It’s a closed loop, there’s about six feet of vertical 1” pipe from the pipe up, then six feet of horizontal pipe with a sea swirl at one end of my six foot tank and the other sea swirl at the other end. Any recommendations on a quieter pump that will run these devices optimally?
My sequence barracuda is surpisingly quiet for such a large pump. Not silent but I was expecting a lot louder. I run it through an OM 4 way (version 3) and get awesome flow.

I'm running an Dolphin Ampmaster 2100 with an OM 4 way, and it too is very quiet. It's rated for 2700GPH. The OM is directly fitted to the pump and the four returns are all 1". Three returns are fed at a time.
One other issue is the size of the pipe your using. You should have at least 1 1/2" pipe from that size pump. Your increasing your head pressure significantly, making the pump work harder and thus make more noise.
5800 gph on the baracudda. I run 1.5" out of the pump and into my OM then it is split 4 ways with 1" outlets.

I was debating between the Dart and Baracuda, both I have heard good things about, I would go with the baracuda as ruth suggested, that thing is a monster and apperantley surprisingly quiet.

Can I get away with replacing just the vertical piping with 1.5 inch pvc?

Replacing it up to the sea swirls should help a lot. If nothing else it will at least give you more flow.
