I'm looking to get some moon lights anyone know of any good sites or ones off ebay that would work well for a 4 foot 95 gal tank. Thanks.

I use LED strip lights for auto use from Canadian Tire, the kind that are meant for pimping your ride  . They are 12V so you need to run them from a transformer. I think they were about $20 each, I'm using two of them over my 4' tank.

Just an opinion, but the 3/4 watt coralife aqualight is a dim peice of junk that couldn't light up a goldfish bowl. If you do decide on that one ask them to light it up for you so you can see it before you buy....

Anyone know of a place I can buy the LED's here in the lower mainland so I can just DIY some moonlights myself ?

My take on the whole moonlight thing is that it is something manufacturers supplied because reefers asked for it. Logically there is no need for them. If sunlight can't penetrate water, then surely moonlight could not penetrate more than a couple of inches. They look nice, but make my Royal Gramma act funny, so mine are on very little.
Certainly the Coralife 3/4 watt unit is crap IMHO.

On my 135g Cichlid tank I have a 72" Lunar Aqualight. It has 6 x 3/4w moonlights. The light penetrates very nicely and looks way cool to me.

On my 135g Reef tank I have a 72" Aqualight Pro. It has 4 x 1w moonlights. Again, the light penetrates nicely and looks way cool.

I think with those single 3/4w units, they are meant for small tanks. Put one on a 10g or 20g and your good to go.

But for a 4' 90g you'd need to put up 4 of 'em to do any good, IMO.

Probably wouldn't hurt to look at other options for a 4' 90g, IMO.

I thought the idea behind moonlights wasn't that it was supposed to illuminate your tank for night viewing but that it was supposed to simulate the light of the moon (which isn't very bright) for lunar cycles etc. Ican't remember what brand mine was but it just barely lights the tank but gives a neat effect, I like it that way

Just my two cents.

Couldn't agree more.
Mine barely light the tanks too, giving the neat effect.
But they do penetrate more than just a couple of inches.
Right to the bottom, actually. (24").
The Reef tank is cool for not only the overall effect, but the colour effect they have on the corals too.
In my Cichlid tank, there is just enough light to see the fish as shadows (for lack of a better description) slowly swimming about.
It's just as relaxing to watch a tank under moonlights as it is with full blown lights, IMO.

I honestly don't know if there is any real logic behind them. I have two one watt units in my Coralife Pro.. Granted they give some nice, if weird effects. However, I think they are totally unnatural, therefore they are not on very much. As I have said before, they are are a nice marketing ploy.

Maybe. But I enjoy mine and that's good enough for me.

And that is where it is at. If you enjoy it, I say go for it. Is it not what it is all about
