Nice, but as I have said many times, moonlights are merely a gimmick that gullible reefers spend money on.

Maybe. But I've spent money on 'em and I enjoy 'em and that's good enough for me.

(Is there an echo in here?)

Well for me, stuff opens up at night now. i.e. my green star polyps used to hid so that all you'd see is the purple base. With the moonlights, they come out at night. Plus my gobies are more active now at night. Right after the moonlights come on, they swim around the tank and explore places they usually wouldnt. The bubble coral seems happier as well.

So I dont think it's entirely a gimmick. At the very least, it makes the tank more enjoyable at night. Why else are we holding these sea creatures captive, if not for our own enjoyment, right?

I know they're not a necessity for home aquariums Bob.... but many animals have been induced to spawn only after replicating lunar light cycles...

I just want to be able to see some of the creatires that come out only at night and not have to get out the flashlight :)

Anyone in between abbotsford and vancouver have any LED's they want to see so I can DIY one myself ? I emailed a guy on Ebay but that will take some time to get from him .

It's basic electronics. Get an AC Adapter and check it's Voltage and milliamp rating, check the LED rating, then get a Resistor in between to reduce the voltage from the AC adapter to the LED to match that of the LED (too much power, and you'll blow the LED).

For multiple ones, just wiring them up in parallel:

Here's the website with basic LED wiring diagrams:

Look up some

Yeah it is! Dont be intimidated because this stuff is for 'reef' use. It's just basic electronics. Just use heat shrink to wrap
up areas where the wiring might touch (when they shouldnt be).

Plus everyone has a junk drawer full of miscellanous AC adapters. I'm actually using 2 of them to power the 120mm fans that I use to cool my canopy. Just check the Voltage rating, and get resistors for the LEDs accordingly.

Let your fingers doo the walk'in maannn. Your best defence is to use the phone book (for everything you'll be surprised at cost diffrences)and it can save you time and MONEY(less to them more to the fish gods!)

Well I ended up buying the LEDs already strung together with a power adaptor for 27 bux shipped to me so that wasn't bad.. I went around looking for the power adaptor and it was 10-15 bux plus taxes just for that so I figured I would save the time and maybe a few bux and order it since the price seemed decent... In 9 days I sould have my lights and the will be on the tank same day of course

www.digikits.com and that takes you to his ebay site.. I got the 6 LED string i think it may be a bit much but I can always tone it down buy taking out a light or 2 rather than having to order more again... You hav to order without the power supply unless you PM him and he will make up a buy it now for 12.40 plus shipping 13.00 with everything included.

Thanks.

I found a power supply with various voltages. I wonder if I can also use this to hook up a computer fan and switch voltages to control the fan speed.

Yeah that would probably work fine but at 13 bux your better off getting it from the ebay site I mentioned its only 4 bux I think plus shipping everything with the lights came to 27 bux shipped.

theres an electronic store in langley that deals with all the electric "parts" such as bulbs and such. The BCIT guys use it. They sell all the stuff to make acuall computer hardware, just tons of kool little things.

There called SMC i believe there right down on 64th and like 204th not sure exact name but its right across from the wall walmart, down a little from the canadian tire. right hand side if your coming from 200th

You can try RP Electronics for Blue LEDs. RP is near Brentwood Mall in Burnaby and they have a variety of electronic gizmos, audio/video connectors and cables, learning kits, X10 and variety of surplus stuff.

If you are looking for a special LED or you plan to buy tons of LEDs, then I would try www.digikey.ca

Yes, you can use a computer power supply as a power source for your LED. You don't need the fancy fan control since you can just use an appropriately sized resistor to limit the power. You can buy a cheap transformer from Cal's on Grandview/Rupert if you need something smaller ;)
