so after looking and looking and looking, only to find nothing that I like, I'm tossing around the idea of making my own sump from 3/4" plywood and simply sealing it with something.
can someone help me out as to what I should seal it with?
the alternative is to goto peavy mart and get a 110gal horse trough for $80..
any tips?

go with the horse trough, even sealed, the stink of wood rotting from salt water is horrible and very unhealthy.
It shouldn't rot if its sealed properly.

My sump is made of ply wood, i fit thin plastic in it and sealed it with something i cant remember what it was. And then to go a bit over board I put pond liner in it as well.
great, now I got to go to Peavy Mart to checkout horse troughs.
Could line the plywood tank with thin acyclic panels, bonding with Weldon.

sump is in and now I have some serious water to make because the old 20gal sump doesn't quite cover a lot on the bottom of this monster.

A number of years ago I made some tanks out of plywood and then i fiberglassed the inside. You can buy fiberglass resin at some of the paint stores. I bought mine from Industrial Plastics. Just make sure that the resin used is non toxic when cured.
