Wow, awesome photo journal Marc. I can't believe how much work you guys did  And that mess of pipes in there, I just about spit out my coffee  It looks great with the rockwork all attached. Must be so nice to finally be able to lean up against the side of the viewing window with your beer on the ledge and appreciate it all

I must say, I really like the aquascaping.

Hey, a question, if your water change reservoir is 215g, do you have 215g marked on your sump somehow so you know how much to take out during a water change? Or how do (or should that be "how will") you do changes?

Heh, Awww thanks Brad, I somehow just knew deep down inside you would understand.

Thanks all, It was a pretty daunting project as a whole, but now that im down to the tinkering, im starting to really enjoy it.

Thanks Christy, yeah it was a mess of plumbing in there...the few i showed during that phase spit out thier coffee aswell

Tony, I have increments marked on the resevoir, and if you have a look at the sump pic in that thread youll see a pvc pipe that sticks down into the water...with a peice of styro around it...this pipe also has increments drilled in it.
Then i have done a conversion on the sump and reseviour to find out what each of these increments equals in gallons.
So now when i do a water change i just watch the float go down 50 gal(or whatever the waterchange may be)
And feed in from the reseviour the same using its increments.
This has made water changes a breeze in this system, if i dont need to siphon, i just open a valve and spit out 50 gal, close it and open one on the reseviour and spit in 50 gal..takes 10 mins.

Ill post a little closer look at it for you tommorow Tony.

Beverly, i will post a few soon of the views...i just figured its kinda ugly right now with all the putty and junk still on there.

lol Rich, i told you your welcome over anytime.. gimme a shout.

Ill post some more of how the rockwork was done in the next day or two, in a little more detail.

Thanks alot guys, Marc.

Sorry Tony that i took so long to get a better pic, but here you go..

http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/20Tank_shots_204.jpg
All i do is look at the # before i start pumping water out.

In the resivour, i didnt want to run 2 pumps, so i came up with a way around it.

Part of the problem for me was that the water from the res. to the tank had to cross a doorway, so my option was over the door, or under.
Under was the only real way that i wanted to see that, but i didnt know what to do with the water that would stay in the piping after a change.
In a week i would guess it woulda went stagnant.

So i came up with this http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/20Tank_shots_346.jpg

Now when the water change is done, i open the little blue valve, wich is connected to the intake of the mixing pump, and it pulls the water out of the plumbing via a veturi.

Works better than i had hoped, but now i just need to upsize the pump to a mag 7 or 9, that way it doesnt take so long to drain it.

Wow. That's fantastic! The aquascaping is fantastic! What a tank, really - wow... You say building it was humbiling - seeing it is humbiling. I have two question though.

First, do your lights have some sort of cover on them that opens and closes (slowly) for a sunset/rise effect? It almost looks like there is a tarp underneat them in a picture. Or am I just crazy?

Second, the way you've used PVC to aquascape your tank, you've drilled holes so that it doesn't fill up with dead water, and to let air out when you put them it - but, could you add a pump to them and get a really random flow throughout the tank? Does anyone think this would be worthwhile to do? Mayby not in this tank persai, but say in a tank that has a flow problem?

wow, thank you guys :D

Crabs, Yeah you are crazy  jk, no there are no sunrise sunset settings, just staggered on off settings.

I originally wanted to put flow through the pipes, but decided it wasnt needed after all the holes were in.
Yes, i think thats a good idea on tank with not enouph flow.

Muck, anytime your out in these woods....gimme a shout.

Thanks all. Marc.

fudge, that is the most insane tank i've seen. i'm totally envious. it would be nice to have a couple 'wobbly pops' and stare through that tank i tell ya. amazing job setting everything up. it looks like you did a lot of planning first. i love how it only takes 10 mins to do a water change. it takes me 1/2 hour and i only have a 55gallon

great job man
