Hi,

Does anyone have any information for a diy pc fixture? The cheapest I have seen is a 110w dual lamp fixture from All Glass Aquarium for $200. I have read in some news groups that there are certain types of common electronic ballasts that
can be adapted to drive pc lamps. They seem to be more readilyavailable in the US. J&L sells a dual 55w kit for about $200 and it doesn't even come with reflector nor lamp, taht pretty steep! I want to build a dual 55w system. Any ideas???

Thanks!!!

You can run a workhorse 7 (buy at albrite) for $60 (I think it's 60?) and the bulbs at j&l for about $50 each.. You can even run 2x 96w pcs on it too..

that is the cheapest way I have seen to go on pcs in canada.. but if you are happy with just 6400k-6500k bulbs, albrite might have some in.. or you can custom order.. they'll be cheap

Hi,

For a dual 55W, you'll need a workhorse 5 ($35, I think). You can check at www.fulham.com (http://www.fulham.com) for details regarding wiring and ballast selection.

Workhorse 7 will work too...just costs a bit more and they can also do dual 110W and Quad 55W.

Although Albright (which's in PoCo) has Workhorse ballasts, you can check for other distributors on Fulham.

Hi,

I asked them about 6500K PCs a while back, and they said they can't get them (they are a european thing). But, I heard that they are trying to get 5000K PCs (50W/55W) for $16 or so.

Hey guys what the current exchange rate for Canadian dollars to U.S. I tried to get those actinic T8 03 bulbs but cost $20 each.
That's the same as buying a URI VHO.

You guys have all the luck. images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Albrite can indeed get 6500K compact fluorescent lamps...you just have to know the right person...

A friend of mine ordered a case through Albrite a while back, but it took, literally, a year for the case to arrive from Japan. It took so long that he had basically forgotten that he had payed for them. The price on them was good though; the cost was lower than John's cost. But the hassle might not be worth it.
