Picked these up on Friday... one is just a very nice intense green acro (correct me if I am wrong.. SPS newb) and the second I forget the name of .. haha, so if someone can provide an ID that'd be great... Also, haven't seen any polyps extend from my acro yet.. is this normal?

Here they are..

Scott,

Does the second frag have a thick stony base? If so, I think I have something like that and would like an ID as well.

The second one looks like a millepora to me. I'm not too sure on the first one, send it to me and I can give you a better answer

Haha christy, as soon as I start getting some growth I will definitely frag it off for you hahah.. but as of now it's alllllll mine.

Anyways.. I understand ID'ing SPS corals is not the easiest thing to do.. so we'll just say the first is a nice intense green acro, and the second.. well I'll just call it a hairy purple acro

I would say the second one is a Mille as well

I think it will be darn hard to Id that thing based on a picture, but it might be easier once it has grown. Easier just to go with colour/growth form to ID your coral then make an ID that might be wrong anyways. For example, I love my green table acro, but have no clue what species it is!

Also, check polyp expansion at night time with a flashlight. Expansion usually only occurs at night in the wild.

2nd one looks more like a digitata than a mille.

digitata? I don't think this is digitata. I know I don't know much about SPS , but I have had digitata in the past and it looked nothing like this. The piece I have is hairy looking , digitata is fuzzy looking. Maybe it is though?

I'd say you'll probably have to wait for that one to grow out. It is rather fuzzy looking for a digitata.

Where did they come from..??

I bought them from Gold's .. not from anyone local. I agree, it might be easier to ID once it starts growing.

Check to see if it has axial coralites (the ones on the tips of the branches). If it has them, then you know it is an acropora.

I have about 80 pieces of coral in my tank and can only identify most of them in generalities like sps-lps, etc.
Personally I think that green piece would look better in my tank with my other unknowns
Ask Albert from Gold's and he can ID what you bought from the store.
