Which UPS gets you by all the stupid borkerage fees? It is ground? or something else? Normally I use US Postal Service air to bypass the brokerage fees.

I am getting a $25 part and don't want to pay the $35 brokerage fee for having it sent UPS air. Hate those fees..

Hello Darren, and all:

You don't have to pay brokerage fees for all UPS services other than UPS Ground or UPS Standard. For the latter two, you don't have to pay brokerage fees even you have them to ship up to Canada (not your home though). The procedure is simple:

1) Call UPS up and warn them prior to package been cleared (try to do this as soon as you get the tracking number)
2) When the package arrived to UPS warehouse, they will call you for custom clearance and pickup
3) Goto the UPS office in the airport and pickup the paperwork
4) Bring these paperwork to the Canada Customs (also at the airport closeby), have the people there to help you clear the package and pay for it. After you've paid for it, they will stamp the paperwork
5) Bring the stamped paperwork back to UPS' other office (across the first office you went to) to pick up the parcels

Hello All,

By the way, regarldess of service class, if you package is not duty free (ie not from a NAFTA origin), you better go clear and pay the custom yourself using the procedure above. This is because anytime UPS pays the duty in order to clear the package, they are essentially lending you money in advance. They will charge you a disbursement fee for this. Another way for them to jack the price up.

Well, last Sunday there was a 3-4 hour wait at the Douglas croissing. Something to consider

Last Sunday was also the last day of the Thanksgiving Day long weekend in the US.

Not a normal week to compare, but your point is noted.

Most of the time there is less than a 5 minute wait at Douglas.

Or just get a parcel address in Blaine, WA and have everything sent there.

Then instead of doing all that driving and paperwork with UPS, just head down across the line, get some cheap gas, pick up your things, and take care of the customs at the border on your return.

Soooo much easier, and only costs $10US per year (plus $1.50 per delivery) for the service.
