i've had a few little patches of cyano growing on the return from my hang-on fuge... it's not spreading, and i got a new fuge, threw out the old one. should i be worried about an outbreak?

here's what it looked like:

Its bacteria man! Of course you should be worried. Fortuately if its localized you can zap it with boiling water and that should get rid of your problem. Make sure you pour it slowly so as to not blast it all over your tank.

Cyano is a sign of poor water quality. How often do you do water changes and other tank maintenance?

it was allgone, but i think i see a tiny bit on an sps frag...hard to tell sometimes it just looks like coraline... i do water changes 10%/week. have a fuge running, no amonia, low nitrates.

With a fuge, you should be looking at 0 ppm nitrate. Could your tank be overstocked or overfed? Weekly water changes are great, though
