What Christy said.

Sam and christy,

It is a new system, its 525g with a 370g sump.

It is a plywood and epoxied tank, with external full length overflows.
The viewing panes (1 side and a face) are 3/4" starphire.
There are 3 -6000 gph sequence pumps as system feeds and 2 are closed loops each with 4 way ocean motions for current.

Jamie and i have been working on both these systems for almost 2 yrs now...been a long process, Im finally seeing the light now, ill keep it updated.

It is still being stocked and the viewing walls still being finished, ill try and get a few more of it for you tonight.

Thanks all, kinda makes all that work worth while.

Christy, ill post a couple of the face as soon as i get a little more in it...but its lovley looking rock and water

Its actually not that bad to work on, the tank was designed to have no bracing that would get in the way...
heres a couple with the canopy slid out of the way.

The Canopy is quite big, so it needed a track system to slide it back out of the way to work on.

Heres a couple of pics showing it sliding through the wall into the nwxt room.

The Canopy is also ducted with inline fans to outside, so there is like a rubber boot that slips in when canopy is in place.

Jason, Flex can be purchased at most irrigation outlets or spa tub places.

These systems you and Jamie have built are so incredible. When I see pics I have to laugh. All that work and money; your wives must love you both very much.

How are the kitchen cupboards coming?

Hey Lee,

The electrical ended up being quite easy, i just had to feed Jamie Beer and viola ! there was Power !
http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/20Mixed_reno_s_029.jpg

Kidding, there ended up being 2 dual 15 amp breakers and 1 single that were totally unused, so i ran them all in the room.....it ended up giving me 5 individual lines.

The major problem was the mess of lines that existed right where the face of the tank was gonna sit... some of them were 220 for all the baseboard heating in the house.

I knew it was 220 simply by the pitch of my scream when it was applied to the back of my hand.
http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/20Mixed_reno_s_016.jpg

Here it is finally after existing electrical was moved, a tripled up header was installed on the structural wall, and the original door was moved over.

Troy...I actually think they do...and both have been extremely patient with the meeses weve made at each others house.

Kitchen...uhhh..errrr..still planning ?

Marc,

Makes my plans of adding a room inside my garage sound that much easier. I love the tracks for the lighting. Where did you find those? I sure could use a couple for my too.

Hey Lee,

I got them at home depot.

They come as barn door sliders, they were pretty over rated for this @ 250 lbs per wheel for a total of 1000 lbs capacity.

The canopy weighs about 300 lbs (even being total aluminum) with all the ballasts mounted on it, But all others i looked at seemed not enouph, wich included pocket door stuff and any cabinet type tracking i could find.

The result was about a couple hundred more than pocket door sliders to get it hung, but now i have one that i can ride on too.

If your canopy was about 100 lbs or under, i would definatly look at some good pocket door hardware first.

Hey Marc,

Thanks, will look into those, my canopies are not that heavy, only VHO ballasts mounted on them, the MHs are remote. But I have a false ceilling above my tank, I would like to drop my lights closer to the tank, and be able to push it back easy for feeding. And them maybe pull all the way forward in front the tanks to change lamps (this would not have much support, they would be free floating). Last time is was big job to lift everything down and work on it.

How far is the travel on those? I would need 5' min but that should be no problem for a barn door. If I make them move, maybe I will need to put the MH ballasts on the canopies. I guess I will go over 100lbs fast too. Thanks for giving me more great ideas and making me more work

Lee,

They Came in 3, 6, 8, 10 and 12' length`s.

I chose the 12' because even when you slide it 4' back (wich was about the width of mine) it still is in the way, but just the other end is.

It is important that you also consider your tanks width when determining the length of the track, because the track must span the full tank width aswell as your "in the moved position" sitting space, and finally add your working room to that total.

So, Im guessing a tank 2' wide would need a minimum of a 6 foot track, that you have a full 2' of working room from the tank edge to the sitting spot on the canopy, wich still seems tight but doable.

*EDIT* i guess this applies only to tanks that have only one back or face acsess, rather than back and front acsess would allow you to push it to the opposite side your working on at the time.

Just a thought that may save you some returning to HD for exchanges like i had to do.

Good to know, I have both front and back access. But will do most work from the front. I just want the option to slide all the way forwards to change the lamps.

About how much are talking for these?

Lee,

I got all the hardware to hang it (eye hooks, s hooks and ready rod in stainless) , and the tracks and the wheels for about $350 total.

That is a beautiful setup. WOW would I love to have something like that in my place. Planning on building an addition in the next couple of years - of course with a fish room- and was thinking about going to a 4 or 500g tank. So ever been to NE BC???? Fishing trip in a couple of years??? JK Very nice job and can't wait to see it stocked.

Thanks Jack and Ruth,

Hmm, i suck at fishing...but im real good at placing a sixpack beside me and hanging the hook in the water as to appear im good at it.
Id be glad to help with ideas when your ready.

Jack, yeah there was a hella lot of planning...though it always seems i coulda done more of it.
For me, the line between planning and procrastinating was way too vague.....

All said and done i couldnt be more happy...unless i had more frags too put in it right now.

Ill add a few more pics soon.
