View Full Version : Hmm, another question
So I just have a quick, simple question regarding my new halides.
It's in a floodlamp right , so there isnt much of a reflector in there. Therefore, the light does not disperse that great... it does indeed spread throughout the tank , just not 100% .
If I buy a clam/SPS coral, and its not directly under the light, will it still be ok?
Silly question maybe... just want to make sure, I don't want to kill off any corals to that. It's 150 HQI , 20k bulb over a 20g tank.
Maybe a new reflector is in store for me... sometime down the road, I'm so broke now.

Adjust your hight a bit for a wider dispersment of light. I read before that you were going to hang it 4 inches above the tank, try 6-8 inches and see how it looks. Of course a pic would help everyone see whats going on.
Thanks for the input
I don't have pics because the halide isn't setup yet... I still have to construct something to hang it from.. hopefully by this weekend.
I just held it over my tank earlier, and had my dad held it and took a look and noticed it doesnt disperse that great.

Did you say its a bell pendant? They suck for light dispersement. I'd definately look into buying or building a better relector. If you still have that Coralife PC fixture that got dunked, maybe you could DYI a reflector with supplies from that?

Your tank is only 16" high, so if you hang your light 6 to 8" above the tank you will be fine.
Hey Danny, this is actually not a bell pendant. It's a floodlamp that was modified to hold the bulb, etc... so it's not as bad as a bell.
I'll try hanging it a bit higher like you guys suggested.. it just looks so much nicer when its say 4" to the water surface
