how hard would it be to drill a tank that already has livestock in it , is there a way to do it without breaking it down , what if i transfer my livestock to a rubbermaid cont or something whilst i drill the tank. tank is a 20 g and i want to plumb a sump with some adequate flow but all the overflow boxes seem to be huge and take up space and that is the whole reason i am doing this . to eliminte unsightly objects in my tank ie skimmer and such . so as per my question is there a way to do this or do i have to break my tank down completely?

From what I've heard, drilling small tanks with thin glass is tricky at the best of times. Probably safer to empty the contents into some rubbermaid totes & drill it properly. What if halfway through drilling your glass cracks? With plexi its a different story, but 20g is still a short tank to be draining down a little to drill at the top.

Just my $.02

Buy a new 20, get it drilled, and then transfer the contents over. Sell the old 20 for some of your money back.

Good suggestion Brad.

Thanks! It's what I did years ago with my first drilled tank. I had a 45, so bought a new one drilled, and just transfered the stuff over. Took very little time really. A 20 would be lots easier.

Best thing to do is buy a 20 and get it drilled. Shouldn't cost more than $50, and you can sell your old one for 20.
