Hey I am setting up a DIY 250w MH pendant.. and I am still confused about so much, lights confuse me.

Anyways I need to find a pendant, a cheap one if possible.. just so I can put the bulb in. I already have the socket for the bulb.. but I am not sure of a good pendant to use. I am thinking of trying Ikea or something??

Reef Optix is a good pendant from what I have read.

I've heard of people buying halogen work lamps for about $30 and replacing the socket and bulb with MH. In the post, the author said he used the stock halogen reflector and it worked great. The pix I saw looked pretty good. Can't remember where I saw the post though.

This is a shot in the dark, but if I am reading correctly, this pendant can be adjusted by height? If so this would be perfect... what do you guys think

No way, you'll fry that thing with MH!

Look up Quick Grow, they will work with you to create the lighting fixture you want, and try to stay in your price range.

The post I saw, the fixture looked more like this (minus attach bracket)

The poster just added chains to hang from ceiling.

Are you looking for a fixture for a SE or DE bulb? The other part you need is a ballast. A good ballast is going to cost you over $100 unless you go low end or used.

I am buying a ballast locally, from Brite-Lite.

What kind of ballast are you getting? M80, M138 or M58?

the ballast is an m58.

If that is the case, then none of the pendants posted will work for you. You'll need something that can fit a mogul socket and bulb.

I already have the mogul socket... and I have the bulb. Just need to pick it up from a local reefer.

Would you have a suggestion of something easy and affordable? I am really stumped. I sent an e-mail to quick grow for a price on a pendant but who knows when I'll hear back.

What I did before was just hang one of these:

Just mount the reflector and socket to a 2x4 and hang that up from the ceiling.

Can an m58 fire a de bulb, or just the mogul type?

An M58 can only fire SE bulbs.

I was hoping to find something locally. Maybe a hydroponic shop carries reflectors? My main goal is to just find something local

Quick grow is local. There is one on Edmonton trail and another some where on Macloed.
Also try Bumper crop, which is also on edmonton trail.
I bet you will even find balleasts there cheaper.
Both are hydroponics stores.
I garauntee you will find what you need.

Brite-Lite carries reflectors. They have a bat-wing reflector that you can bend and manipulate to disperse the light any way to like. I think they have another type similar to the aqua-light pendants but I'm not sure. The stock in the local warehouse is a little different than their online store...
