hey all, got a 2.5 galon tank, think i'll make it into a refuge if possible. how would i join it to the display tank? just tubing somehow? not sure what to do... i don't want to drill glass or anything...

also, what do i need to put in it to start it up? couple rocks? macro algae or something?

thanks.

Believe unless you drill, you'll have the same concerns as a display tank and sump (the possibility of overflows).

the problem is with these tiny tanks that they will crack super easy when you try and drill them. i would just get an old aqua clear 300-500 and convert that to a fuge with some cheato.

Yeah. A 500 would hold probably 2 gallons almost anyways.

Chaeto & a small light. You could put a small piece of lr or something in it but not really necessary. I have my AC500 & AC300 hob fuges with Chemipure & a sponge, but that's just me.

In your guys experience, how well do the HOB AC500 fuge's work? I want to put one on my 20g, becuase I have a hair algae problem. Do you think the fuge would work?

yes, anytime you give something like macro alage a chance to eat up excess nutrients it will deprive stuff like hair algae food to grow.

Good deal, time to set one up then.

So all I need then is an AC500, some chaeto, and a light over top of it?? Any specifics here?? What kind of light ? Any light ? Do I need to add in some sand and LR rubble to the HOB fuge?

preferably a light in the 6700k range is best. if your going to grow cheato you don’t need anything else as it has no roots, if you grow caulerpa you will need to root it into some substrate such as mud or very fine sand. i would keep it lit 24/7 if you grow caulerpa and remember to harvest when it starts to grow.
