I finally got a TDS meter to check the water coming out of my RO/DI.

The meter came pre-calibrated, so I haven't recalibrated it yet....and I got readings of 17 on my tap water, and zero on my RO/DI water.

Is this absurd? Or do we have really clean water here is Coquitlam? Or is the TDS meter clearly not calibrated?

yeah I get about 17 - 24 in surrey..

And yes, we have some of the cleanest water in Canada, so its not so absurb..

I have calibration fluid if anyone needs it..

Guys on ReefCentral can't believe how good our water quality is here, some folks in the states measure 200-400ppm.

Just because TDS is low doesn't nessasarly mean the water is good, for instants, we have higher phosphate levels in our water and that isn't measured by TDS. also for the lower mainland and Island we have a over abundance of algae to clog our filters up faster.

Isn't PO4 included in TDS readings?

No, I don't believe so.

does that mean you don't have to buy a RO/DI filter if the water is so clean?

I wouldn't go that far, yes your TDS is low, but as stated above your PO4 is high and you don't want to be putting that in if you can avoid it.

TDS total dissolved solids.
I would venture that phosphate is dissolved in the water and would show up on the TDS meter.

i concur, that is why we have DI (de-mineralization by Ionization) If you measure PO4 in zero TDS water you will not get a reading. That's the whole point of having RO/DI.

Tap water is 17 PPM of TDS here in Port Moody zero after RO/DI.
