On my tank I currently have for lighting I currently have 1 48inch PC 4*65 watt, and one 4 bulb HO t5 24inch bulbs i forget the wattage...

My question is this. I now have an option to get a 175watt or 150watt metal halide system.

I want my tank to be mainly zoos. So I was thinking that my current system is good enough but I want to get a some more opinions/advise before I lose this chance.

Please help me

What size tank is it? Depth? 175w good for up to 24" depth I believe. Need more info about your set-up.

THe problem isn't with how deep the tank is. 150-175 watt will do nicely on a tank that is 20 inches deep, with SPS put high up you could grow some of that too. The light spred from only 1 MH bulb won't be enough to cover across 4 feet of water. Can you retro fit the MH to add on to the existing lights?

This is why I was thinking that it would be better for me to stick with my t5's.

I cannot retrofit MH to my existing lights. I'm not to concerned about growing SPS.

Currently in my tank the PC lights cover the entire back side of the tank providing lighting the whole way across the tank and the T5s light the front area covering 30 inchs over the center of the tank leaving about 9 inchs on both sides of the tank which is a little bit darker than the rest of the tank.

If I were to get the MH it would go in place of the T5 lights at the front. hmm... now that you guys ask me these question i begin to see more and more that it won't work.. I think with the MH at the front like that it would be having a lot of wasted light going to places where it does not need it. ie. it would be shineing on the floor in the front of the tank...?

well tell me what you think...

If the MH is at the front of the tank will there be any rocks and corals under the light? There may be some light spilage outside of the tank, but that is determined more by the reflector and position above the tank. Even if your T-5 bulbs are only 25 watts each you still have over 350 watts of light over your tank. Thats enough for softies IMO.

ok thank you

Just wanted to put my mind to rest about passing up the MH. Its not free but still an ok deal so I thought I would ask.

I try to keep the front of my tank a little bit empter, as I feel the tank looks to crowded when the rocks go all the way to the front
