Two tanks one sump- good idea?

Have two tanks side by side a 180 and a 130 and thought i could keep everthing more stable with a larger volume of water so why not one sump? Has anyone done this and how does it work? Can anyone foresee any complications ? ( thought i might get some good comments from that question)

as long as when the power goes out, your sump can handle the drain off from both, there should be no problem doing it. I know a few people around here that do it that way. they call it a "common system"

Only complication is that you have one system, so if something major fails, you have a problem across the board. Provided you've built everything properly and taken measures to mitigate things like heater and pump failures, you will probably enjoy the combination.
Hey, you could even build a water bridge between 'em :D

I think would be a smokin' idea, 310 gallons worth of water. If you decide to do it be sure to take lots of pics!

One of the local reefers has a 180 & a 125 plumbed together & it works great.

I have a 180G and a 120G running off the same sump. The tanks are across the room from one another. The plumbing runs approx 30 feet through a false wall to the sump. I have a 90g sump with an ampmaster 3600 supplying water to each of the tanks.The advantage to me was less maintenace less equipment less time testing.

I have had a 94 and a 25 sharing a sump, I am upgrading the 25 to a 40is in the near future but for the last 2 years everything has been smooth.
