View Full Version : Lets see those macros!

I finally figured out the macro zoom on my camera so I thought I'd share. The last two are tricky, see if you can guess the coral.

Nice shots..
Whats with the distortion. They almost look fake or a drawing. Cool...
What setting are you on?
Great colors

The distortion in the last one is just me trying to zoom in too far. Haven't quite mastered the setting yet, but I found that by using a tripod with the lense as close as possible to the tank, I can use the 10x digital zoom on my camera. It appears fuzzy on the view screen but after the pics is taken the camera magically clears it up, within reason.

The last two: I'm guessing ricordia and alveopora?

I'd say the last 2.. well the first is a brain ... hehe how do I know?

nice shots danny, i'll take some macros tonight as well...

In case I missed it, what type of camera? Mine does not seem to do well with auto focasing (sp?)(No manual focas). I want to try and find a used Canon A70 (hint hint anyone?). My brother has one and it seems to work great!

Hey Walter, its a Pentax Optio MX4. I have a 512MB card in it so I can take up to 2 hours of mpeg 4 video. Check it out here.

jeez, was I right or what danny?

I have a pentax as well, a pentax optio something or other ... I am sure it's a great little camera, but I don't know how to adjust all those settings, too many to be bothered with.. although, the pictures would be worth it. (my macros come in a little distorted as well danny) but i am by NO means a photographer, and i use no tripod.. go me.

The first of the bottom two is part of an open brain. The last one is a bit fuzzy but it is my toadstool leather.

danny zubot: it seems as tho you are in 'digital' zoom which is causing the pixelation. See if your camera allows you to turn it off, then try it again.

Here's one of my favorite macros so far, that is one of the first i've taken with my camera:

http://www.ditchmond.com/gallery/albums/userpics/aquarium/normal_DSCF1983.JPG (http://www.ditchmond.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=65&pos=0)

I'll post some soon, as I just picked up a 10x macro lense for my cam.

Is that 10x optical zoom? I was using the 10x digital on mine. It has the option to zoom in 10x digital + 10x optical for a total of 100x. That makes it really hard to focus even on manual.

Nice pic though.

well my camera has 10x optical, and 2.2 digital, but since I shoot mainly in 6mp/RAW it turns off the digital automatically which I like. The lense I just got is a 10x macro lens which is awesome. I'll try and get some pics shortly.

i for the life of me cannot get macros like you folks can!! what's the deal? are all your corals within 2 inches of the glass or what? or is it my camera...or just operator error  hehe i've got a canon a510 is this capable of those shots, does anyone know??

I think your canon should be capable of it, it has a 5 cm macro. Make sure you have the macro setting on and you are holding the camera fairly still. Perhaps use a tripod if you have one.

yah, i think it has 5cm macro and i do have a tripod...but that's why i'm asking if all those shot's are of the corals are within 5 cm of the glass? mine are all futher back i guess. i think maybe i just need more practice...everyones shots look like bizzare microscope shots, very impressive i must say.
