Ok, just a couple of pics.

Fresh water:

Saltwater - 2 minutes after installing. I'm amazed at the density of the bubbles....

Aren't they cool? Love mine.

Very! I'd have to say the only thing I was a little surprised (maybe dissapointed) was the way they put the joints together. Almost like a bead of melted plastic? I have one spot I need to re-glue on the very top cap. Not a big deal though...

Very nice Walter

I'm sure that will be one of your best purchases ever.
For a split second there I thought Euroreef had brought out a new "binford" model with a stainless output pipe

This so far is the best I've been able to get from the skimmer. I found a problem with my RO/DI that I think is causing this. This is 1 day of skimming, but it's WAY to wet

Have you tried flipping over the outlet pipe? To lower the water level in the skimmer? It makes the skimmate thicker and drier as the foam concentrates more before going into the collection cup.

Not sure I know what you mean by flipping it over, as far as I can tell my outter tube pipe is as low as it will go... it goes back to the RO/DI. When I added topup water the skimmer would blow over no matter what I did. I was also told on RC to do the gate valve mod, it will make adjusting alot easier!

Well, see how things go now that I'm using bottled water for a bit...

On mine, the tube can be removed, flipped over and reinserted. The "seat" point on either end of the tube is controlled by an O-ring on the pipe. One end of the pipe sits lower than the other, controlling the water level in the skimmer.

I'm confused Walter ? Where is the standpipe that you slide up and down. You're not adding RO/DI into the skimmer are you?

I can't find an ER5-2 on their site?

You can also lower the water level in the skimmer by raising it up i.e. setting it on something.

It's there! It's all the way down, at that setting the bubbles still overflow right now... The RO/DI I add to the sump, I try to keep it away from the skimmer. You can see the thread in REEF section about my RO/DI.

Mine is different. I have a main pipe that is vertical, then the adjustment pipe slides over that one. The adjustment pipe is a bit shorter than the main pipe. Right now i have the adjustment pipe at it's lowest point.
If that makes no sense at all, I can take a picture!

I'm thinking your adjustment pipe should slide into the other one not over it. Maybe they gave you the wrong size????

Ya, pics might help. My adjustment tube slides into the main tube coming out of the side of the skimmer.

Alright, here we go.

First one shows the skimmer(duh) and the 2 tubes. The tube on the left fits into the elbo.

http://aquahome.no-ip.com/er10.jpg

The secone one shows just that

http://aquahome.no-ip.com/er11.jpg

This one show the size of the 2 tubes. The one on the right has the o-ring at the bottom, it slides over the one one the left.

http://aquahome.no-ip.com/er12.jpg

Here it is over the smaller tube (First one). It is all the way down. You can see that the main tube is about 1/2" to 3/4" longer than adjustment tube.

If there is another way to put it together I'm all ears! I can't see how anything else is possible....

Thanks, Walter

Ok here are some pics of mine:

The elbow coming out of the skimmer
http://www3.telus.net/seamonkey68/skimmer1.jpg

The two tubes, one shorter and fatter, one taller and skinnier
http://www3.telus.net/seamonkey68/skimmer2.jpg

the shorter one goes into the elbow
http://www3.telus.net/seamonkey68/skimmer3.jpg

see how the taller one has the O-rings? Each is placed at a different length from the end of the tube to adjust the water height
http://www3.telus.net/seamonkey68/skimmer4.jpg

The tube with the O-rings goes into the fatter tube

Et voila!

Guess they changed the design. Mine is quite different as you can see from the pictures.

Yes it certainly is different. I can't help but wonder why they changed it?

Can you just shorten that middle tube Walter?

whaase
05-19-2005, 01:47 AM
That's what I think I'm going to do if I can't resolve it, or I'll just do the gate valve mod.

Walter

it looks like the overall height is about the same though, regardless of pipe design.

Well yah, mine sits at about that level of the neck... You're not using any additives of any kind Walter?

whaase
05-19-2005, 03:26 AM
None. Now that I stopped using RO/DI from my filter, it has started setteling out. I flushed the membrane out for 2 hours tonight. I'll try adding the new water tommorow and see how the skimmer reacts.

Well, I cut down the 2 tubes. I cut 1 1/2" off one and 1" off the other to even out the length. Seems to be working ALOT better, I can now get nice dry foam... I'll let it go for a few days and see what happens. Hopefully, I can post a picture of it working now!

Hey Walter, maybe they accidently gave you a stand pipe from a taller skimmer. I made one for my becket skimmer and they work much better than valves. There is no way to adjust the air intake is there?

whaase
05-20-2005, 06:32 PM
Not without modifing the venturi intake. Some people are drilling them out bigger, but with the waiting time to get replcement parts I don't want to try.

I think I did get the wrong pipes, it is working MUCH better now. I have very dry foam.
