Finally got my new ASM G3 skimmer and have had it running for 48 hours, just wondering how long it should take b4 its breaks in.

Also during that time should I run my old skimmer simutaneously??

Those skimmers should work within the first day. if you aren't getting any skimmate you might want to make some adjustments.

Not answering your question, but reading through Calfo book (thanks again for the group order Matt) he suggests running two skimmers, cleaning alternately.

What does that have to do with anything?

Original post mentioned old skimmer and had ability to run both simultaneously.

Didn't mean to hijack.

A lot of the guys on RC suggest running ASM's for the first day in a bath tub full of fresh water to remove any residues from the manufacturing process. Maybe give that a shot.... and then try it in your sump. Or just give it another day of two.

Certainly no harm running both, but it may delay the break-in of the new one.

Thanks all, I did run it overnight in freshwater.

Just took a look and it looks as though things are starting to work. Just took a bit longer than I thought.

Man is this thing quiet, I think I'm going to be very happy with it.

Thanks reefraf for the earlier advice.

Its working great, no complaints at all. I am still surprised at how quiet it is.

I don't have much to compare it too (Prizm Pro) but its working great for me on my 90g (30g sump)
