Question about a clam

I took a road trip to JL today and my wife talked me into trying a Crocea clam. Very cool.

I have a 90 gallon (24") tank with 2X150W MH. I just set it in the sand tonight and will find it an appropriate home tomorrow. The question is, what is the best position for the clam in my tank? Midway up? Near the top (about 5" from the top)? Please advise.

With a crocea, I'd go closer to the top.

It may, more likely may not, stay where you place it. I'd acclimate it on the sandbed first. You'll know if it's not happy on the rock, because it will jump.

Move it as far up to the lights as you can... they are the most light demanding clams available to us. I had mine about 1-2 inches under the surface of my water when I had 175w bulbs. Now that I've switched over, I'm probably going to move it halfway down.

What about flow? Do they care what the flow is?

I think that croceas like to be mounted on rocks, but with your lighting setup they would probably do best near the top anyways. As for flow, just make sure there's nothing too strong. If you can see the mantle flapping or moving its too strong.

Im with deb on this one I have a crocea and like everyone told me placed on on the rockwork to no avail every time it jumped mine likes it on the sandbed and is thriveing and growing. Basicaly the rule of thumb is place them were there happy
