Well after finishing up the cabinet last weekend.
http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/cab1.jpg

It was time to paint the back wall of the tank,
First step of course is to get the masking tape out,
http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/mask1.jpg

Here it is ready for painting. With only one minor problem.
I masked the paint inside the tank. DOH!

Here we are about half way through.

Finshed painting

And here it is back on the cabinet with the masking peeled off.

For anyone interested I used KRYLON fusion for plastics.
You can get it for about $10 at your local Canadian Tire.
wipe the glass with paint thinner, Let it dry, Then paint it like you whould
any other surface.

Im off to home depot tommorow. To pick up some more pvc.
Hopefully if all goes well, Ill have some pics of the top half of the plumbing.
In a couple days.

Well you know what they say, Idle hands and all.
So I decided to put the light on the case just to see how it look's :P
Well i notice the cooling fans on the light's are a little loud (I got the lights used)
Here they are after I cleaned them all up
http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/lightmod2.jpg

For the record if one of your fans ever die they are a 40mm ball bearing fan
This one to be exact
http://www.logicsupply.com/images/accessories/Fan40_pic1.jpg
You can probably find them somehwere closer but a quick search turned them up here.
http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php/cPath/47/products_id/186

On a side note with the Power line feeding the fan being 12v DC, It will be no problem to add
a few LED's on to the line for some DYI moonlighting. Ill add this project on to the list.

Put the fans back on the same side, it is the best way for cirulation and you will probably over heat with one on each side as they will be fithting each other. what they have done is used tow smaller fans instead of one larger one to create a flow through the fixture. if you draw from both ends you creat a vacumme and no flow, if you putsh from both ends you creat a pressure and no flow, if you have one end pulling and one end pushing you only get a flow equal to one fans cfm, if you pull with both from one end you get a flow equal to two fans cfm. you want both fans on one side pulling the air out of the fixture.

a computer is totaly different as you have more fans pulling out than pushing in, hence you also have vents to allow the unballanced air flow.
the best coling fan I have seen uses ducting for intake air and only exhaust fans.

Hmm is see what your saying Steve.
Ill take some temps with the fans set each way and see what the diffrence is.

Well i guess i should stick to cooling computers. LOL
After testing with the fans both way the results were
39 to 40 degree's the way i had them set
40 to 41 degree's the factorys ways.

Not much, But no sence in producing more heat then needed

Thanks for pointing out my error Steve.

Well After my Trip to Home Depot The other weekend i finally got most of the PVC fitting's i need.

The First thing id like to say is purple primer is a bad idea,
Using purple primer on the Oak kitchen table is an even worse idea.
End result is a grand assortment of foul words erupting from your wifes mouth,

http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/PP01.jpg

One of my next jobs will be refinishing the kitchen table

Anyways,
First up is a slightly redesighned Durso standpipe,
I stole a couple of other peoples Mods and put them together to suit my tank. I changed it to the hole on the back of the tank setup, and added the hose mod to the top (this apparently makes the noise reduction fool proof)

http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/plumb03.jpg

Second up is the first part of the return.
Getting pumped up the 1 1/4 line buy a Mag 9.5 then splitting and reducing
down to 3/4 pipe.

http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/plumb02.jpg

And here they are in postion

http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/plumb04.jpg

Unforunatly where my tank sits i can see a bit of the plumbing and that
ugly purple primer. A little of the leftover paint from the back of the tank.
Problem solved!

http://members.shaw.ca/kabong/plumb06.jpg

I made sure not to paint anywhere that will be over top of the water, and thats just the PVC glue you see in the holes.

Heres one last pic of the return with the last piece of PVC and the
Loc-Line pieces.

Well Thats it for now, Next up is my surface skimmer box for the drain.

you can get some clear primer from plumbing supply places. its actually nice becuase it's a little thicker and won't run as much.

you really dont need primer if you just use a little sandpaper on both surfaces so that the solvent can penetrate the pvc!

not as good, if you read about why to use primer you will see it does help alot in the bonds. I use clear primer and clear glue, and sometimes grey glue.

Greetings,
Could you please list the mods to the Durso, you used? URLs would be great. It looks like the Stockman mod, but the side hole and the smaller lid??
Thanks

That durso is exactly what I need for my setup, which is just like yours. Right now I have an airline tube running down the main drain which makes a gurgling noise.

I cant say i exactly remember? Off RC somewhere im sure though.
Its pretty much a standard durso, the part you arent seeing is the side hole in the pic hooks to my bulkhead. then just the piece of tubing on top to redice noise. (or so im told)

I'll presume you mean the Loc-Line, The C-tires out here doesnt carry them or anywhere else for that matter. I ordered mine from ocean aquatics. Its not "air/water tight" so it can only be used under water. Im sure between coraline and crap getting stucked in it after a few moths its probably doesnt lose much.

Anyways ill have a major post coming up soon. been doing lots of tank work not much computer work. But ive been taking pics along the way.
Overflow box and sump are know complete
