View Full Version : Anyone with MH lighting??

Hey all . . . ready to buy my First MH lighting . . . !! Just wondering if anyone here in canreef has a lighting setup that only includes MH in 10000k (no actinics). . . Just wanted to see how it would look like without actinics as the lighting system that Im getting is strictly MH . . . LMK u guys!

I have a 175w mh set up with bulb that is about 3 months old 10k. only thing you need is a reflector

Nope its not needed. Actinics are mainly used for dawn + dusk effect and/or personal preference color adjustment. The corals themselves do not need actinic supplement.

Agreed. 10000k light (white light) already has the complete spectrum. Actinics are really nice for that extra fluorescing and is a personal preference.

It will give you an idea of what to expect from your lights with or without actinics, even though pictures never do the colour true justice.

Although actinics are a matter of taste, some of my best viewing moments are at night under the actinics. I wouldn't run a tank without them.

I started with a 10K MH, but added 2 small actinics later. Even though the 10K is pretty full spectrum, I found the tank looked a bit yellow and was more pleasing with some actinic added. The Actinics also make some of the corals and things flouresce just a bit.
