Will shrooms take out a clam? I would like to add a clam to my tank but I don't want to kill it trying to find out what will or will not kill it. My tank is nothing but shrooms, rics and zoo's. There would be no escape for the clam even in the sand bed. Any thoughts?

I have shrooms on the same rock structure as my Derasa, Squamosa & Hippo clams. None seem to mind.

Will it's mantle be touching shrooms and zoos?

Shrooms & zoo's overgrow everything so the mantle would probaly come in contact at some point.

Would like to see a pic of your tank.

Could you elevate the calm say on a new small pc of rock? or something to that effect. I think the shrooms being very close should be ok , I'm not sure about the zoos.

There you go.

I'm curious also. I have a few stripped mushrooms on the small piece of rock my clam is attached to.

Awesome looking tank by the way

Thanks guys. Too bad the pic really doesn't do it real justice. I have a new dslr on order  .

Nice shroom farm eh!

I know an anemone stings clams and as far as I now shrooms are of the same family. Haven't seen too many things that fight them off. Probably better off not trying a clam I guess.

If you reaaaallllly wanted to try a clam, I'm sure some of us (say me, say me) would be willing to help you make some room by offering to make new homes for some of those shrooms & zoos.

Seriously, those are nice corals you have there. You must be doing a lot of things right for them to be taking over the tank like that. If you're ever in Burnaby, send me a pm & you can come over to check out clams living with mushrooms & zoos.

hey jeff,

clams are wicked, and i'd like to see one in your tank...

if i recall correctly, in my experience i've seen a clam get irrated/stung by ricordia yuma, but i dont believe i've had any problem with ricordia florida or the blue shrooms.

might be worth a shot. it would certainly be a very nice addition to your tank.

Thanks Shao for the info. I do have yuma's as you know. I think I'll try one. If it doesn't work out I'm sure you have room for one more eh

Hey Anthony, many, many people have allready raided my tank. Some more than once. Your welcome to your turn   . I'm not far from J&L if you want an excuse to come out this way. Let me know and I'll pm the directions.

Wondering how would the shroom's handle the intense light the clam requires?

The pic shown is with the 250w SA 14000k and 2 95 watt VHO. 1 white, 1 actinic. The srooms that are directly under the MH, stay smaller and don't try too hard to grow up the rock. The ones down farther in the tank expand to about 5". Very little par with the SA bulb IMO and got humugus sroom growth. I have since changed out the 14000k for a 10000k AB with 2 actinic's. Huge difference. Srooms stay even smaller on top which in turn lets my zoo's spread out  .
