I just noticed a fairly new MH Lighting fixture by Coralife called Aqualight Advanced. Pretty cool.

I've been thinking of replacing my single 250MH light with this dual 150W HQI because of the stupid center brace on my tank. I've been considering replacing the stupid brace with an acrylic strip but I can't seem to go ahead and do it. Having the dual HQI light should spread my light much better. I wonder if my Acros would improve their coloration? I know I'm not getting great colors as is. There are 2 things I don't like about this Coralife fixture though. First is that the bottom is black. If the bottom had a reflective material then the light that bounces off the water surface can be reflected back into the tank. The 2nd thing is that it uses 20K bulbs instead of 10k bulbs.

Heres something else to consider...

2x250w + T5s

Sam, if the bottom wasn't black, you might get a lot of spill from the fixture. Maybe not a concern in your situation, but it is a design consideration...
Or it's cheaper to go black!

Is spill a bad thing though? Some spills into the room but some goes back into the tank. Whereas with black, wouldn't it just get absorbed and wasted??

Hey Cyclo. That's great. Thanks for the link. I'll check those out!

EDIT: Oh yeah, its also designed so it can be mounted on legs slightly over the tank so spillage would be minimal I think compared to my hanging PFO reflector now.

If you guys are considerin those two options, I would definitely go with the aquamedic's. I've owned the smaller version before and I believe they are very well made, stylish, and are made by the respectable Germans. Plus you get T5's with them for a similar price. Just a thought.

I second that, you need some kind of dawn dusk lighting over a tank. I've been considering a pendant likt these for a while too, thanks for the links everyone.

The link shows 36"L x 9.5"W x 2.75"H

I don't know who stocks them here so you'll have to find a place that can special order it if you are thinking of getting it locally. I know Pet Gallery can get it. I'm sure some other places could also.

Hey . . . I found these lights!! Man they are tight!! They are 20000k and u don't really need actinics (its pretty blue) UNLESS u want a dusk/dawn effect . . . well when I started the hobby I couldn't even dream of having a dawn to dusk effect and my reef back then (ran atleast 2 1/2 years) was flawless . . . Thanks u guys also exact price was $630!! Includes fans and all . . .ballast was tiny!!

Thanks. As I have a center brace, I am looking into dual MH fixtures only.
