I bought a JEBO 10 gallon curved glass for $108.00 in Richmond.
It included a couple of 8w T-5s, a powerhead and filter. I will remove the filter and place some reef rubble instead.
I have written the company to see whether they have 10K available.
This office reef tank is my first nano so I will be looking for advice from you experts, eh.

I got an inside tip that aquaria.ca will be getting 12k and 14k T5s shortly. No mension of the size of bulbs though.

Do you happen to know if 'T5' is a standard?
In other words does everyone's T-5 fit a T-5 lighting system?

T5 is a standard, though the bulbs lengths aren't the same standard size as T8-T12 bulbs (Do we care? No, not really). The 8W bulbs are "1 footers" I believe. Actual size is probably a little less - my "3 foot" T5s are around 33" long, etc.

T5 refers to the diameter of the bulb, so yes, you could put that bulb into any T5 socket of the appropriate length... Whether you'd get it to fire or emmit the right spectrum is another matter. A NO ballast may FIRE a T5 VHO bulb - but chances are it won't be emmiting the correct spectrum - as it really wasn't meant to drive that bulb. Conversely, a VHO ballast may burn out a NO T5 in a matter of minutes - again the spectral output probably isn't going to be correct either.
