Okay so plans change just like the weather around here... (okay I know it's been sunny forever). I'm taking delivery tomorrow of a 54 Corner Reef ready with some accessories. I'm getting a Hamilton 250W HQI fixture and I have the choice of 10k or 14K. If I stick with 14 K should I still go with actinics? I was kicking around the idea of a 24in T5 Actinic and a 24in T5 10,000k and running those 12 hrs a day and the MH 6-8 Hrs a day.

Comments?

if you were going with the 10k t5s i would get a bulb to match that. otherwise your tank will be nice, then the mh turns on and it's blue, then the mh turn off then your tank will look yellow. (s'what i think would happen)

No going to trade in my 90gal with a cherry stand and cap etc etc, got a good deal on the trade in value. Getting a Mag 7 a Seio 680 60lbs of Select aragonite, corner 54 with a stand, HQI 250w pendant and a couple other things with less than $100 changing hands.

I've got a Hamilton 14k 250 watt mogul on order and according to hamilton they say that the 14k is better run on it's own without actinics. I still plan to run my 55w pc actinic anyway and will just have it come on before the 14k does and after it goes off so it'll be off when the 14k is on. That way I'll still get a dusk to dawn effect. I think I agree with invigor that you will go from blue to white if you use the 10k t5. Just a thought but you might want to try an actinic only t5 with it.
