I just got a price quote from Bow Vally aquariums for the tank I want. On their website the tank should cost $80.00 and the oak stand was $95.50. When I talked to them on the phone the tank went up to $280.00 because I wanted an overflow, they didn't have any wood stands so he suggested I get an iron stand for $190.00! I thought metal stands were cheeper.

Is it normal for them to jack their prices like this?

I thought metal stands were more expensive especially since steel prices have gone up so much in the last little while. Also, is it an external overflow? If so, then it would probably be a lot more labor intensive since they have to grind out all that glass to make the overflow slot.

If worse comes to worse though, you can always get the standard tank and modify it yourself or get someone to help you.

I think I might have to for that price I can DYI a bunch of the stuff that it needs. The stand might be an understandable price, but the stock tank was $80, that means I'm paying $200 for the overflow and 1 bulkhead.

It would be nice if they could mension that on the web site, especially showing a 403 area code.

they might be using a thicker glass if your drilling it and doing an overflow. its also probably two holes and bulkeads? one in and one out?

Just a quick update.

I bought the 65 gallon tank from BA's for $140.00.
Now I'm buying a 6x17 and 1/8 inch peice of 1/2 inch glass from bow valley aquariums for $10.00.

total $150.00

DYI really does save money!
