I'm seeing a number of pictures of Acropora that's being grown under VHO and it looks fantastic as well as some under T5s, is anyone having any luck with SPS, Acropora etc and Montipora plates under PCs, how about any of the other light hungry corals.

I have SPS under PCs right now and they are doing ok.
I can't wait till I get some MHs though. Then they should start to really colour up!!

You'll get low growth rates & less intense colour with most SPS under PC compared to MH. Montipora digitata is one lower light requiring SPS you could look into. I'm keep any SPS in a friend's tank with 250w MH until I upgrade my tank/lights to a full MH setup.

I have a birdsnest under my PC lighting right now. Seems to be doing rather well. Undoubtly though I'm sure MH will find its way into my home soon

Wasn't there a movement a few years ago, just say No to NO? That's all NO? wow.. well someone who's generous beyond belief has offered me a ballast that will run 4 48" VHO's so I'm already starting to plan my next 90 reef.
Rich I'm always blown away by how nice your tank looks, and that's all NO.. wow. Here I'm looking at 130 watts of PC on my 15-20 gallon and was wondering if it would be enough. I guess you've answered my question.

Doug, you know you can go getto with MH also, get basic 250 watt ballast (only 1) and use a sunmaster bulb or something like that. will be under 100 for the set up. then youse the VHO ballast you just got to run some used VHO actinics or go with Phillips 03's NO on the VHO ballast (I did that and the bulb last about 8 months but at 15.00 each it is a cheep start)

this way you will not be restricted in the placment of corals like Rich is.

Steve, thanks for the idea, won't I have horrible algae though with a Sunmaster, if I remember right they're 4100K and 3500K.
I'll look them up though, a good idea non the less.

Doug

sunmaster was just what came to mind, there are several bulbs that are about 5600 to 6500 K

Murray: my tank is 14" in height, it's the same footprint as a 33gl except is narrow and longer.

Steve: just for the record  most of my SPS are 4-6" below the surface

Hey all . . . Yes I've been lucky enough to keep acro's / SPS under PC's . . . Mind you my tank is about 13" tall at max from the bottom of the tank and I am running 2x 96watt PC's with excellent flow and I never miss a water change. Most of my acros are kept no lower than 5 inches below water surface tho (except for my blue tip acro which is at the bottom of the tanK) . . . Depending on which acro, most of them are growing fairly slow (i like it that way tho' coz my tank is so small . . . i have a 27gal  ) As for my other SPS (ie. frog spawn, candy cane, etc. etc.) I have no problems with it . .. they grow alot faster in my tank compare to the acros) . . . Check out my tank shots on the pic post
