drilling glass a successful story!

so...I impulsly bought a 6pack of diamond dremel bits from canadian tire for $25.99 +tax. came home, popped em in the dremel, got a spray bottle with water and went at it!

through 3 mil glass it took about 5 minutes to drill the 1.5" hole...only downside is the circle I drew with a sharpie came off as soon as it got wet, so I had to "visualize the win" and try to go for a good circle on my own...turned out pretty good...for my first time!

when i drilled mine out i drew a circle on the inside of the glass then i drew on the outside as well the circle never left

i did on the inside as well, but the water/glass mix made it hard to see...

When I did my first hole I had the same problem with the marker running.
The second hole I did, I drew the circle and waited 20 minutes. After that, some of the marker chipped away but it didn't run.

I always draw a big blob of black over the area with a permanent black marker and let it dry, and then stick a few layers of electrical/medical tape in the center. Then I take a 2-pointed compass (it's not technically a compass, is it? Some cartographics tool, anyways. I'm sure a compass would work as well), plant a point at my midpoint where the tape is, and scrape the circle. The marker gets scraped off where you need to drill and you have an easy guide to follow. I definitely find that even permanent marker doesn't hold that well so it's nice to have a pretty well defined circle if things go missing.

got me a $11.14 3/4" bulkead and got er all setup. just waiting on the impeller for my skimmer pump and I'll have skimmage!

this really shows off my green water..I wonder if it means more skimming neccessary or if uv is in my future.
