Hello everyone,

Im currently using a mag 18 to power my skimmer. It currently pumps 2 feet horizontally and about 4 feet vertically.

This has been a great pump and worked well.

Ive had it for quite sometime and think the day to replace it will come sometime next year.

Can anyone reccomend similar pumps, or anything i can bezides regular cleaning to prolong its life?

Thanks Rick.

Have a look around for a used Iwaki. The size will depend on the size of your skimmer and system. I ran a Precision Marine Bullet 2 then 3 for over a decade with an Iwaki 55 then 70. Both were zero maintenance and never failed me.

A bit late but...

Having run the same setup becket/mag18, honestly when it goes, just give it a hug and then walk away. Huge energy pigs, I’ve switched to a dc needle wheel pump/skimmer and there really is no comparison. By the time you replace that pump you will be almost at the cost of a new skimmer anyways.

Yes and no. I recently sold my old Iwaki 70 for just $200 when I found a used Vertex Alpha Cone 250 for $400. The pin wheel skimmers cost much less to operate but big old pumps can be found easily for pennies on the dollar because there are many of them out there, no one wants them anymore and they last forever. Performance wise the Vertex and Bullet 3 have been indistinguishable. I found the externally installed Bullet was faster and easier to clean and do maintenance on.

Hey there with a Beckett skimmer you need power to clean. Not say that a mag 18 wont work. But if you can get a pressure pump something like a Mak5 or a iwki 55 or 70 yes these will have a greater push power.

with becketts that are a amazing skimmer. just keep the beckett injector clean
