View Full Version : Anyone know what this is?
I got this as a hitchhiker on some zoanthids. It is about a centimeter long. It kinda looks like an anemone in the picture - foot on the bottom, almost transparent, tentacle things on the top. But it moves pretty quickly (relative term) and I thought it may have be a type of nudibranch.

Any help would be great! Is it trouble, or can I release it from its cottage cheese container prison?
Thanks,

You might have a look at the Hitchiker FAQ. I am not sure where to find it though.

Looks like some kind of weird jellyfish
It is floating because I put it in a dish to photograph but usually it walks along the rocks with its foot. I had to toothbrush it to get it off of my zoos.

Its a upside down jelly fish  good find. I would get rid of it though so it doesnt sting ur fish

Until you can postively ID it, I wouldn't recommend letting it share the same water supply as your tank. Lots of marine species are toxic and could wipe out your tank if it dies. Caution is all I can suggest for you.
Sorry to be the pessimest (sp?)
not at all, caution is always good advice. It is just a little guy, do you think it could still poison my 40gal system? I have it in a perforated container in the sump.

It really looks like an anemone. I'd give it some time, I doubt it is toxic in singular form.
