Well this acro of mine seems to be bleaching from the bottom up, nothing in my tank has changed all perameters are in the green. So I'm stumped

I see whit spots up top too. Are you sure it's not tissue ressesion? If it's ressesion, I would cover it with epoxy. If it's bleaching, then I'd frag ASAP. Otherwise it's going to go downhill fast.

why would you frag a bleached coral.. it will come back, but that picture shows tissue loss not bleaching.

Some acros loes tissue at their bases because they are lacking in light to those areas. I don't know if that's the instance here, but if it is, I'd check into that man.

Just a thought. Could the brain beside it be sending out sweeper tentacles?

yep, shine a flashlight in at night, if it is sweepers you should be able to see them

Hi, looks like RTN rapid tissue necrosis, common with acropora and starts at the base. Any new corals recently you've may have added to cause this outbreak. I would remove it, before it might cause other corals to have an outbreak of RTN. Regards Ken

RTN usually takes only hours and the entire colony is gone. That appears to be what my acros are doing. Very slowly losing tissue from the base up. Takes weeks to lose a colony, which isn't RTN.

This has been going on for about 5-6 weeks know very slowly. Ive checked for sweepers and there not even close to the acro. This was the last piece Ive added to my tank, been holding off on new ones untill I get this figured out. Is there any way to save this coral or is it a lost cause

Andy, it may just stop and start growing back, or it could go completely. Unfortunately you can't do anything but watch. Moving or messing with it will only stress it further.

If it's slow I would epoxy over the dead or resseaded area, covering over a little of the live tissue of the coral. If it's done right it will just grow over the epoxy.

I've tried that on all my receding corals. Doesn't work. I've fragged off pieces far away from the recession, it still dies. Hopefully that isn't the case here, but it looks just like my acros.

Well I just got back from holiday and it has progressed further on that one branch, but also the rest of the acro has growen, and there seems to be good night time polyp extension so I think im going to wait it out and see

What is the procedure for a fw dip

StirCrazy

I take some RO water in a container and warm it up a little so it is not cold. then I take the coral and swish it in the water for 30 seconds and then put it back in the tank.

Steve said a while back why would you frag a bleached coral.. it will come back,

Is this true for all SPS? I had a pink cats paw frag that bleeched a couple of weeks ago but still has good polyp extension. How long will it take?

Remember the birdsnest that Kari got - the bleached-out "accidental frag" he picked up?

Mind you he does seem to have a knack for the SPS... but it shows they can come back from a pretty sad state sometimes.
