Hi, I haven't been around the forums much for a few months as it's been a rough summer and fall for me. But, I've been finding alot more time for my reef lately and am eager to develop it further. That's what got me thinking about this idea.

I'm just putting this in the Island forum for now to gauge interest. I was curious if fellow Canreef Aquatics.com reefers would be interested in a swap meet this summer for all and any reef aquatic related stuff. I have a about 2'ish acres of lawn for people to set up tables, blankets ect to sell any reef related hardware. (tanks, plumbing, lighting, their DIY inventions, whatever) Plus we could set up a picnic area with bbq's and even set aside a tenting area for out of towners. Also I have a 40x60 workshop where livestock tanks could also be set up. I think we would run out of electricity and salt water before room  .

I also thought if enough interest was shown, maybe some vendors would set up shop and we could see what various venders offer and charge. (though I think I'd charge them admittion. hmm how about a nice coral for my tank. LOL!!!!)

I figure if I rent my neighbours vacent lot for parking,I have room for 100+, but just wanted to see if any islanders were interested before I formally put this offer out.

Ken, great offer, but the likelihood of getting any substantial amount of people on the ferry might prove difficult. Certainly put the offer forward for all to respond, and see what develops!!

Count me in. I never miss an opportunity to buy up anything I can.

I think he is talking about selling corals not the storage tanks

Well it's an idea I like, but I wonder about Reef Raf's point of "The Big Smoke" people jumping on the boat. I guess the size of the crowd would definately depend on them willing to travel on the big rusty buckets. Maybe throw out the idea and see what happens I guess. Hey wait a minute didn't I already do that?

I'm in if it happens
You should get a few island reefers anyway
Very generous offer anyway...if the big show doesn't pan out maybe just us locals could do a BQ ++ anyway?

Nanaimo is easier for me to get to, than Van, so i would try and get there

OK we'll set something up. Anything from full blown swapmeet to humble handful of Islander reefers BBQ+ will just be determined by numbers I quess.

Hi, that sounds like a great idea! It would be a great chance to meet everyone, swap stories, ideas, dreams, and just have a great time. Nanaimo is great because it is in the center of the island. I'm in! Regards Ken

Great idea. Why not? I would certainly come if possible. Organizing ahead of time would make it a lot easier.

Hmmmmm could be tricky planning ahead to make a trip all the way across Nanaimo....but I think I could make it. Definately interested in meeting more Island reefers as I'm just starting the transition from freshwater to marine.

Well BCWolfen, I'll get you as much notice as I can so you can plan and equipt your self for such a perilous venture.

ps welcome to the boards! You'll never regret moving from fresh to salt. At least I haven't.

Thanks for the welcome. Wolfen works just fine, I had to add the BC seeing as about 90trillion other people somehow got hold of my o so original name.....

I've wanted to have a salt tank forever, but could never afford it or had the space. Now that we own our home I can safely set it up without having to worry about moving it.

I'm in, always looking to meet other reefers. I think I am the only one in Port Alberni

Hope someone brings some Macro Algae, I really need some.
