Hi folks,

I’m just wondering if anyone has any bigger skimmers rated for a 300g tank. I would still like an internal Skimmer to be in sump. Just seeing if anything is out there before I purchase new. Let me know what you have and a price. Thanks.

I have a Vertex Alpha 250 all boxed up and ready to ship. The original Red Dragon pump died so this one comes with a Reef Octopus DC-5500S controllable needlewheel pump with only 3 months use on it.

I'd post pics but not sure what everyone is using now that photobucket no longer allows 3rd party hosting.

Asking $600

Anyone else have anything? Can anyone recommend a good Skimmer for this size of tanks that would be good. My icecap k160 is awesome but they don’t make a large version.

I've been trying to find a used Reef Octopus 3000EXT for my system. There is a nice size Bubble King for sale that was listed on here around a month ago but they seller won't reply to any form of message. I'm wondering if he died. Currently I'm using a Precision Marine Bullet 3, it does a good job but its tall, loud and consumes a lot of electricity.

Noise is one of the things I don’t want to compromise on for my new setup as it is in the living room and my wife is very distracted by the loud aquarium equipment. I definitely want to have an effective skimmer as I have a large bioload with fish in my current 150g.

If you want low noise/silent running DC is IMO a great option. Have you looked into the Coral Box DC skimmers? I know not everyones choice but the D300 I ran worked fantastic when I had it. http://www.fish-street.com/coral_box_cloud_c11_dc_protein_skimmer?currency_co de=CAD

Funny you mention this. I recently was looking at the Coral Box Cloud 9 Skimmer as it is a dc skimmer. As far as I can tell it should be able to handle 300g reasonably well and 400g light bioload. I’m wondering if this would be satisfactory or too small for a 305g decently stocked reef tank.

Has anyone heard anything or used the BUBBLE MAGUS CURVE A9 PROTEIN SKIMMER. It’s supposed to be able to handle up to 350g tanks. I have never had a bubble magus skimmer, but they seem to be reasonably priced.

You could also pick up a couple smaller skimmers like the bubble ones. Inexpensive and get the job done. I'm going to probably add another to my system eventually. Maybe maybe not. I have a curve 5 that used to be on my 90...now it's on a 180. Still takes out a lot of muck same as when it was in the smaller tank. You can buy those bubble magus for like 100 or 150 each. Skimmers are skimmers for the most part. But yea, noise can come into play. I believe these curve ones are fairly quiet.
