Some of you are familiar now with my tale of woe. The complete and total wipeout of 3 years worth of collecting due to a component failure. That is old news.
The good news is my new display has been up and churning along now for a while. Tank is way beyond being fully cycled now and I am ready to start the re-stock.
After watching the aftermath of the meltdown my wife asked me "why do you put yourself through this madness?" And I almost had to stop and asked myself the same question, but I already knew the answers.
I live for a challenge, I don't like doing something everyone else does, and my tank is my refuge, my daily decompression. But mostly, and in all sincerity, it is the people. There is a silent, automatic brotherhood (or sister) that exists here. We have all felt the same pain, we all chase the holy grail, whatever our own personal holy grail may be and we are truly passionate. There is the friendly competition among one another but when one of us is in need we all pitch in and lend a hand. We are a true community. I wish the rest of the world could work the way this community does. And the real cool thing is that it is truly an international community.
Some of the finest people I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know are reefers. So many of you have reached out and offered support. I wish I could thank you all. I will refrain from throwing out names for fear of missing somebody and I tip my hat to some of the finest gentlemen and ladies I have had the pleasure of getting to know.
I put the finishing touches on my stand over the weekend and I'm ready to rock. Wish me luck

Looks great, what's the size of this again? Really like the ledges around the base.

First, they aren't ledges...they are drink holders...lmmfao. The tank is 68" long, 32" deep and 20" tall but has coast to coast overflow on the back so the display portion of the tank is a shade over 150g. With sump total volume is about 220 gallons

Just think of all the cool decisions you get to make now with a blank canvas! What happened totally sucks but you know deep down that getting to start over is a little exciting.......expensive.......but exciting....lol

Hopefully you can restock your favourites with the originals from other members who acquired frags from you. That would be sweet along with whatever new you choose.

I must agree. Almost all my closest friends and acquaintances are fish-people or reefers. It is a community that cares and is willing to give a hand. I know Canreef & BCA members have been there for me & for others when needed.

Good luck with the rebuild and looking forward to seeing your new setup blossom into something spectacular and full of life.

Hey Gary, glad your back on it and didn't give up, I almost quit a couple months back when I just couldn't get a handle on the cyano out break cost me all me corals and a couple of fish, unfortunately some of those corals were from you. What can offer is a couple of free frags fo Candy cane I got from TomR which don't seem to be doing so well, best of luck!! I see your Naso is cruizin nicely

Sounds good. You may want to wait until there is more to look at than rocks and water.

Bittersweet. I watched 3 years of collecting literally melt before my eyes. It was crushing. I can think of better ways to start fresh. This method is a little tough.

Yes indeed. Another couple weeks of QT, and your Chevron will be giving my Naso something to think about other than a few clowns. I can't wait!
