New build 118gallon

So My wife and I have been reef keeping for 10 months now and have fallen in love with the hobby. We started with a small 34gallon biocube that I bought off cl. Then upgraded to a 60gallon. We still find ourselves strapped for space with the fish we want and coral. So We decided to contact concept and have a custom 118gallon built. We went with a shallow long reef 60x24x19 with polished edges, eurobraced and center internal overflo. Also having a custom stand and sump built for the tank. Our equipment we will be using is jaebo 9000 return pump. Vertex 150 slimmer, and the gyre 230 for flo. Will purchase additional one at a later date, and will just use a hydor from my 60gallon when I transfer everything over. Tank should be arriving within the next few days. Look forward to sharing this build and hope u all can give us advice as we move forward

If your joists are perpendicular to the tank, it will be fine.

Your joists should be able to hold the weight no problem. The tank is long enough to run across multiple joists. Looks nice and shiny :biggrin:

I figured it would. Just surprised that the sump wieghs as much as the tank lol. Can't wait to get it wet and transfer everything over from my other tank. Still lots of work to do though

to be fair, if your hardwood was installed correctly and you are placing the tank there, then your tank will run parallel with the joists in your house :)

Regardless, it will hold just fine.

Tank won't be there. It's only there for storage until I have the plumbing sorted out and then will be moving it to a different location. This room my floors run parallel to the tank. Other room is the oppisite

So went to go plumb my tank today. Unfortunately after looking inside my overflow box I noticed the brace of the stand is in the way of 2 of the 1nch holes. Kinda ****ed as this was the reason my tank took so long to arrive in the first place( 12 weeks after being told 5-6). Just before they were going to ship it a few weeks ago they told me they made a mistake. I guess they figured since it was redone that nothing was going to be wrong with it again. Guess they forgot to check. Been told they are going to get one ASAP to me. Side note. I’m still a little concerned about the weight of my sump and tank being on the 2nd floor. Debating on buying a acrylic sump instead to cut down on some of the wieght. Should I be nervous that it weighs as much as my tank lol. At least I’m insured if something happens.

changing the material your sump is constructed from is not going to solve a whole lot. if your floor is incapable of holding 1500lbs it is going to eventually yield supporting 1450lbs, its just going to take longer... let alone the extra weight added whenever you walk up to your tank to view it.
to be perfectly honest if weight is a concern you need to consider either adding a telepost downstairs to help support it or moving the tank to a more suitable location.

Is the wall the tank is against a load bearing wall? I don't think you have much to worry about either way but that would make it extra safe.

Great news today. Got a call from Dave at concept an informed me that my new stand was being shipped today. Can’t wait to get things started again.

Tank stand arrived this week. Can’t say enough about Dave at concept tanks for getting me the stand as fast as he did. Not to mention compensating me very nicely for all my troubles, top notch company! Now I have 3 days to get this beast ready for the transfer next week. If ur looking at a custom build, I highly recommend concept aquariums! Can’t wait to get this build going and getting wet. Stay tuned

Cabinet is painted. Now to screw it back together and get the sump in place. Then I can start the plumbing and build a couple of shelves.

So got most of my plumbing done today. Not sure if I’ve done it correctly as I’m fairly new to plumbing a fish tank. I have it roughed in. Also made sure I can add to it as my tank progresses if needed. I’m open to suggestions and advice. It hasn’t been glued yet. Still need to attach to the back wall also too. Getting close to being done!

So transfer started today. Unfortunately I had to break down my 60 gallon and place everything in makeshift set ups. I bought a under the bed storage container and set it up as a frag tank while I move the tank into
Place. I also put the rock into a garbage bin with bubbler,heater and powerhead.

Tomorrow morning I’ll have the tank put into position and level and shim it.
Then add the sand and rock. I saved a ziplock bag of sand to seed the new stuff. Hopefully I won’t have much of a cycle take place. I’ve got two
Days to this transfer so I’m going to be very patient and careful with this transfer. Wish me luck!

So managed to get the tank level. Fill the tank last night and put new sand in. Saved a small amount from my other and added that in also. Today I managed to get my rock put back in. And now climatizing my coral. Hopefully I won

Still need to figure out the lights. Rather not hang them from the ceiling. The bars on the end here don’t seem to stable. Might have a metal
Fabricator create some new ones that can hang the same way.

Sweet ya would look nicer forsure getting some fabricated. If you do end up going the hanging route i just made my light mount and hanging system.

I used some angle racking material from home depot.

Ive found some perfect ratchet pullys on amazon that are cheap and make it easy to raise and lower the light fixture.

Its heavy duty but mine is also holding up 2c 8 bulb tek lights and 2 radion xr30s hahah.
